The successes achieved by Xi are directly attributed to the loyal support from you and your sisters. Your gifts allow us to provide an environ- ment where our undergraduates can prepare for excellence in their lives after college while gaining friend- ships that will last a lifetime. Chap- ters take many months to put together a strategy to recruit new members who we believe have values that are aligned with Sigma Kappa. We believe this alignment of values is the key to recruitment—making it a mutual selection process. How Do We Determine Legacies? It is the belief of Sigma Kappa Sorority that our legacies are extremely important to the success of our sorority. When the chapter is determining whom they wish to extend membership to, the chapter shall give careful consideration to the following relatives/step-relatives of collegiate mem- bers and active Sigma Kappa alumnae: sisters, daughters, granddaughters, and nieces. While Sigma Kappa strongly encourages chapters to invite legacies to join our membership, legacy status does not guarantee member- ship and chapters are not required to extend membership offers to legacies. Also, please note cousins are not considered legacies. How Do We Know a Legacy Is Going Through Recruitment? The most effective and efficient way for a chapter to be aware that a legacy will be going through recruitment is for the Sigma Kappa collegiate or alumna member to complete a Recruitment Introduction Form (RIF). The RIF can be found on the national sorority website, www.sigmakappa.org. When a RIF is completed online, the legacy status is verified by NHQ and then the form is sent to the chapter where the legacy will be attending school. Upon receiving the RIF, the chapter will contact the recommending member to let them know the RIF has been received. Again, this is the most effective way to recommend a member. When mail is sent to the house, there is a chance the information will be lost or misplaced, thus the chapter will never know the legacy is going through recruitment. With over 1,000 women going through recruitment at KU each year, the RIF process will be your most successful way to introduce and recommend your legacy to the chapter. Additionally, if you want to recommend a woman who is not a legacy, please also use the RIF online to send in a recommendation, for the same reason. For further information of the legacy policy or to complete a RIF, please go to www.sigmakappa.org. Recruitment continues to grow at KU and so do the size of the member classes. Chapter total is now over 200. The chapter really appreciates get- ting the RIFs. It makes recruitment on our side much more successful! We hope that all Sigma Kappas take the time to recommend women for membership.
