Alumnae News Marjorie Albright Hazlett '50 enjoys living in Lawrence, watching KU football and basketball, and spending time with her family and 25-year- old grandson, Matthew. E-mail: margecharge@ sunflower.com Mary Sue Childers Foster '58 retired as professor emeritus in June 2017 from Wichita State University after 51 years of teaching art education courses. She was elected to two positions on the 11-member board of the National Art Education Association. She served as VP of the Western Region and then as director of higher education. Her research interests took her on two extended trips to Japanese schools. Her interest in textiles led to a weaving experience on a kente cloth loom in Bonwire, Ghana, in Africa. Last summer she and her husband, Perry, spent several weeks in Panama visiting a friend. They toured the Panama Canal, visited a remote Indian village in the jungle, and saw Panamanian folk dancers in colorful pollera dresses. It was a great way to see the country. E-mail: nancyschuetz292@hotmail.com Linda Westphal Cherner '68 and her husband, Bob, are enjoying their retirement, which allows for more time to spend with their four grandchildren and to travel both nationally and internationally. She has also increased her volunteer efforts for her passion of women's reproductive rights. E-mail: llcherner@gmail.com Sally Swetnam '69 is busy playing golf and volunteering, both for a medical center and for the Milwaukee Symphony. She loves traveling and has been to France, Spain, Italy, England, Hawaii, and the Canadian Rockies, just to name a few places. The recently took her nephews on a Disney Cruise. E-mail: swetnasa@wi.rr.com Martha Cushman '70 earned a master's degree in music (voice) from the University of Illinois and worked as an assistant professor at the University of Southern Mississippi for five years. Her career then morphed into sales and marketing, and she was a Midwest sales manager for two different meat and poultry companies. Martha lives in Decatur, Ill., and hopes to move to the Pacific Northwest in the next few years to be closer to family. She is currently a substitute teacher for two high schools. Her first grandchild, Everett Jacob Thiess, was born on December 20, 2017, and is a healthy, happy baby living in Washington, D.C., with her son, David, and daughter-in-law, Becky.
