Neighbors told firefighters they saw the residents leave the home earlier in the day. Firefighters on scene said they did not believe anybody was inside the home, which was still too hot to enter around 4:30 p.m. A powerline was down and two kerosene tanks were near the fire. I had the good fortune several years ago to fly into the Grand Canyon. That was one terrifying experience because even though we were pre- pared for it to be surreal, I could not have imagined it. Seeing pictures of the Grand were low to the ground for the 250- mile flight. And then the bottom fell out -- or at least it felt as if it did. Without any change in altitude, my stomach dropped a thousand feet, leaving my body hanging in space.
