2A Daily News – Tuesday, November 20, 2012 Community people&events The Tehama County Resource Conservation Dis- trict (TCRCD) has a dedicated network of volun- teers who have been providing valuable climatolog- ical data to the District for many years. These vol- unteers monitor and record precipitation and unusu- al weather events. The TCRCD is seeking to expand their monitor- ing program, particularly within the Cottonwood area of Tehama County. If you are interested in weather and have a desire to learn more about how weather can effect and impact our lives, the district invites you to become a volunteer rain monitor! day, November 27 at the Evergreen Middle School library beginning at 5:15 p.m for current and new volunteers. Join TCRCD staff and a representative from the Department of Water Resources as they discuss the district's monitoring program. Hear about how the program works, how the data that is gathered by volunteers is used, and why precipita- tion monitoring is so important. If you would like to attend the meeting, or if you are interested in becoming a volunteer but cannot attend the meeting, please contact Rose Calzontzi, Watershed Coordinator at (530) 527-3013 x115 or rose@tehamacountyrcd.org. The TCRCD provides volunteers with a simple to use rain gauge, data sheets, and training to get started. The TCRCD will be holding a meeting on Tues- District seeks rain monitors Compassion is not a feeling How do you feel when you see the hurts of this world? When you hear about human trafficking, does it ignite a uneasy feeling in your stomach? What about seeing the images of people after a natural dis- aster? Do you feel like there should be something done to help these people? When you hear on Face- book that there is someone who needs help do you feel like it is sad that they are suffering? How about yourself? Do you feel like you are the one in need and would love to benefit from the generosity of someone else? About the Tehama County Resource Conserva- tion District (TCRCD) The TCRCD is a non-profit special district creat- ed to assist people to manage, conserve, and improve the natural resources of Tehama County. They are involved with many different projects and educational endeavors ranging from free irrigation system testing and water quality sampling, to exot- ic plant removal and hosting hands-on workshops. Setting it straight –––––––– It is the policy of the Daily News to correct as quickly as possible all errors in fact that have been published in the newspaper. If you feel a factual error has been made in a news story, call the news department at 527-2153. When you see or hear about unfortunate things do you feel sorry for the people? Do you get that feeling in your gut that says you should do something but have no idea what? Are you bombarded by the sights of people in need and overwhelmed by the requests to help others, even when you feel you can't meet your own needs. Maybe you are in a position to help, just a little, but feel that the people asking are trying to take advantage of the generosity of oth- ers. anything. You do not get any points for feeling compassionate towards someone who is hurting. You do not earn Samaritan credits for sym- pathizing or empathizing with their situations. You certainly do not get any dispensation for feeling like you can't or won't help someone How you feel doesn't change else because you are in need your- self. Feeling doesn't change anything for any- one. Action helps others. We all decide at some point if we live in a uni- verse that is ultimately good or bad. At some point we decide what our moral compass is and we act accordingly. If we see that the world is inherently good, we feel compelled to be a part of the goodness. Perhaps you tithe, maybe you dump your spare change into the red kettle once or twice throughout the holiday season. Maybe you have gone on a mission or you have donated your gently used items to one of the various thrift shops. Faydra Rector You Matter by step guide to map out how to be a radical giver. I sim- ply want to say that when you feel for someone who is suffer- ing or when you feel sad for a situation that is occurring you need move past the feeling to the doing. Commit to something you will do to impact someone else. Also, it should hurt. It should be more than you want to do. Next time you go to the store, buy two of every- thing and donate for someone else what you Some of the most compassion- ate people I know are the ones who have nearly nothing or have lost significantly in their lives. It is in their brokenness or their broke- ness that they have been compelled past feeling to doing. I have wit- nessed people who have lost chil- dren begin to reach out to families losing theirs. I have seen people who were divorced and left behind reach out to newly divorced parents and offer significant assistance. There is no measurement tool to gauge what motivates someone to move past feeling compassion to delivering it. I wish I had a step provide for yourself without a second thought. Use your buy one get one free coupons to get free items to benefit someone else. I could go on and on with ideas about how to act compassionately but there are infinite ways to be a blessing to others. In this time of thanksgiving, why don't you let your generosity be the thing someone is thankful for?
