Sports PREP VOLLEYBALL | Quarterfinal, Los Molinos 3, Weed 0 Bulldogs cruise to semis with sweep By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor LOS MOLINOS — It was a quick night for the No. 2 seed Los Molinos Lady Bulldogs volleyball team, which swept No. 7 Weed on Tuesday 25-7, 25- 8, 25-22 at home. With the win, Los Molinos earned a spot in the Division V semifinal round against Modoc at 6 p.m. Thursday at Los Molinos High School. "We're really looking forward to being in the semifinals again," Los Moli- nos coach Chas Konopka said. "This will be our second time going to the semifi- nals in three years." The Bulldogs came out wanting to jump ahead of visiting Weed early, said Emily Bailey, a junior hitter on the squad. "We just wanted to come out here and who led the team with 17 kills. Los Molinos would cruise to a 25-8 win. Then Weed would show some life to start the third, and would build a 19-10 lead. "We definitely were on cruise control in that third game," Bailey said. The Bulldogs, however, wouldn't con- cede the set, and strung together a come- back off solid serving from Bailey, Sea- man and junior Katie Morgan. Junior hitter Breana Tehama VOLLEYBALL 3 1 3 0 Mercy Lady Warriors Volleyball The harder and level of play didn't hold up and Mercy had to hold off a feisty Dunsmuir 25-10, 25-17, 19-25, 25-20. Mercy dominated the opening of Game 1 as the Lady Warriors built up a 23- 6 lead before the visiting Lady Tigers even registered a service point. The Lady Warriors found themselves trailing 12-9 in Game 2 before a great rally, highlighted by an Ella Fleet diving dig helped boost Mercy's momentum. Kemp hit one of her three aces on the night to square the score at 12-12 and the Lady Warriors held on from there with big kills from Breana Kemp and Jessica Curl. Two points later Kayce Kayce Kemp finished with 10 service points and 37 assists. Fleet led the offense with 12 kills, Curl had nine and Breana Kemp chipped in with seven.
