Tuesday, November 13, 2012 – Daily News Volunteer opportunities daily: Here are some of the ways people can make a difference • The Guardian Angel Foundation is a non-profit organi- zation that helps families in need through a referral process from different agencies in Tehama County. Volunteers are needed to help with the clean up and organization of donat- ed items. Help is also needed to lift heavy objects and yard work. Information is available at 384-9857. • AARP/IRS, under their Tax-Aide Program is seeking local volunteers to assist Tehama and Glenn county resi- dents with state and federal tax preparation. Bilingual vol- unteers are also needed. They accept and train volunteers between October and December. Volunteers are asked to give a minimum commitment of four hours per week between Feb. 1 and April 15. Expenses are reimbursed on a limited basis. Information from Harley Bennett at 529-1536 and Barbara Vandygriff at 824-2531. • The Tehama County Transit Agency Board is seeking In recognition of Vet- erans Day, the Young Marines set aside an entire week – Nov. 3-12 – as Veterans Apprecia- tion Week. Young Marines thank veterans "The purpose of this special week is to chal- lenge the Young Marines youth membership to honor our nation's veter- ans," said Michael Kessler, national execu- tive director of the Young Marines, "and to demonstrate their sincere appreciation for the vet- erans' service to Ameri- ca." volunteer drivers to help provide transportation to and from non emergency medical appointments. Mileage is reim- bursed. Information is available from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Wednesday at 385-2200. • The Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Pro- gram at Passages Adult Resource Center has ongoing recruitment for volunteers to be advocates on behalf of Medicare beneficiaries. Volunteers help to explain Medicare benefits and serve as advocates to help Medicare patients access the health care benefits. Information and application packets are available at 898-6716. • St. Elizabeth Community Hospital Auxiliary needs vol- unteers to assist in different areas of the hospital; front infor- mation desk, gift shop, and patient services. Information is available from Annemarie at 529-8002. • The Tehama County Team of the Long-Term Care 300 Young Marines units nationwide, veterans are honored in a variety of creative ways. Units are sending thank you cards to hospitalized veterans, cleaning up a disabled veteran's yard, visiting veterans in hospitals or planning a community- wide social event with guidance from the Young Through the actions of 3B Marines' adult volun- teers. "While drug demand reduction education is the primary goal of the Young Marines," Kessler said, "close behind is the commitment to honor veterans. When the last of our World War II and Korean Veterans have heard the final bugle call, it will be up to us to ensure to their legacy. All Young Marines take great pride in that." Young Marines units receive positive feedback from veterans' organiza- tions year after year but especially during and after Veterans Apprecia- tion Week. Kessler says the Scouts collect food for the community seeking volunteers to help raise money, assist in typing legal documents and offer knowledge of legal aid to those who need help. Information is available at 824-1254. • Alternatives to Violence is in need of volunteers who Ombudsmen needs volunteers to become advocates for res- idents in skilled nursing and residential care facilities for the elderly. Training is provided. Information, 898-5923. • The Lords Table needs volunteers to help cook meals for the homeless and hungry from noon to 1 p.m. on Mon- day, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday at the Vineyard Church on Walnut Street. Our Pack wanted give the Cub Scouts the experience to help other people in our community.This is part of their Cub Scout Promise.
