PREP FOOTBALL | Quarterfinal, Foothill 48, Red Bluff 13 Spartans fall in 1st playoff game in 8 years For the Red Bluff Spar- tans football team, Foothill's playmaking ability was just too much to overcome, two weeks in a row. By ANDRE BYIK DN Sports Editor PALO CEDRO — The sixth-seeded Spartans fell 48-13 to the third-seeded Cougars on Friday at Foothill High School in the Northern Section quarterfinals a week after losing 48-7 to the squad to end both team's regular seasons. It was Foothill's junior quarterback Ryan Pollard who again gave the Spartans' defense fits. "We took our hats off to them," Spartans coach Corey Hein said. "Those guys, they're well prepared, well coached, great athletes. They're just a good team." Roethlisberger left the game early in the third quarter after get- ting slammed to the turf by Kansas City linebackers Tamba Hali and Justin Hous- ton and did not return. The Steelers (6-3) won their fourth straight anyway. Shaun Suisham kicked a 23- yard field goal 51 sec- onds into the extra period, one play after Lawrence Timmons intercepted Kansas City's Matt Cassel and returned to the 5. Jamaal Charles ran for 100 yards and a score for the Chiefs (1- 8), who have lost six straight.
