She chose Oregon, but wasn't getting enough playing time and decided to look around her sophomore year. "We'd played PSU when I was a freshman and the match went five sets. They were really good," she recalled. So, she e-mailed Vikings' assistant coach Katie Kaysinger. "I wanted to go someplace I had a chance to be a starter and PSU was a good fit for me." It was a match made in heaven. "I'm so happy with the team and the team chemistry. I love the coaching chemistry with Katie and Eric (assistant coach Eric Leibbrandt)." Through 27 matches this season, Wheeler is the team leader in kills, attacks, and points. She is also third in digs and already has claimed a Big Sky Player of the Week honor and is the confer- ence leader in double-doubles with 17. Wheeler "has the makeup to be one of the best outsides in the league. She brings a complete game and a powerful swing which will give her a high kill count," said sixth-year head coach Michael Seemann. He described her as "a skilled player with excellent skills in passing and defense" and having "a competitive attitude, and also a desire to perform skills right.
