Obituaries Man arrested after threatening to burn home Photo by Ross Palubeski Donna Mae (Poppleton) (Shults) Smith, passed from this life on Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012. Donna was born on Aug. DONNA MAE SMITH 10, 1947 to Robert James Poppleton and Thelma Cleo Jones. The lived in Chico, CA until they relocated to Red Bluff, CA. Donna attended Bidwell Jr. High in the 8th grade and then went on to graduate from Red Bluff Union High as Donna Mae Shults. Donna lived there until 1984 when she moved to Concord, CA with her new husband, Larry Gene Smith. She also resided for a time in Antioch, CA until moving to Oroville, CA in 2000, where she resided for the remaining days of her life. During her life she worked for K-Mart in both Red Bluff and Concord, lat- er for Contra Costa County General Services and then to the Butte County Asses- sor's Office for 11-1/2 years from Dec. of 2000 until Sept. of 2012. Donna was a genealogist A Red Bluff man was taken into custody about 1:30 p.m. Saturday after making threats to burn his residence in the 2100 block of Reta Way in Red Bluff. The man intentionally poured gasoline in the house and threatened to burn it, however, it did not light a fire, Red Bluff Fire Chief Jon Bennett said. Red Bluff Fire responded with one engine company and five personnel and were at scene about one hour. The electricity to the house was turned off and gasoline- soaked rugs and pillows were removed from the house. A power blower was used to ventilate the fumes from the house to render it safe. Red Bluff Police placed the subject in custody. Nothing further was available. Smith of Oroville, CA; her sister, Shirley Chambers of Para- dise, CA; her brother, Leslie Poppleton of Arizona; her two sons, Michael Shults and spouse, Sarah of Sacra- mento, CA; and Matthew Shults and spouse, Jennifer of Chico, CA; her step- daughter, Angela (Smith) Heinrichs and spouse, Greg of Magalia, CA; and eight grandchildren, Christian, Alyssa, Sarina, Esme, Isaac, Sofia, Levi and Rebekah. There will be a memorial service held at the Chico Cemetery, located at 881 Mangrove Ave., Chico, CA on Saturday, Nov. 10, 2012 at 10 a.m. This will be an open air graveside service. All who wish to attend are welcome. County Police Activities League and Tehama County Friends of the Library and raises proceeds to benefit PAL programs and the Summer Reading Program. Registration begins at 6:15 p.m. and Bunco starts at 7 p.m. at the Red Bluff Elk's Lodge, 355 Gilmore Road. Tickets are $10 each and can be pre-ordered or bought at the door. However space is limited to the first 168 participants. There will be lots of door prizes as well as prizes for the most buncos, most wins and most losses along with a 50-50 raffle.
