Terrible things are happening in the world around us. Cities are burning, Americans are being murdered and, even more distressing, our America leadership (Congress) seems to be content on paying for this privilege. me greatly and it should concern all of the residents of Fayetteville and Cumberland County. We do not live in a vacuum here. As America desperately struggles to maintain its This concerns position as a world leader, we find ourselves working equally as hard to maintain our dignity and respect; hard to do when senseless attacks keep occurring. To think that these terrible, unprovoked outbreaks of anti-American violence in dozens of countries around the world will not find its way back to the streets and neighborhoods of Fayetteville is naive. This begs the questions: At what point does America cease borrowing billions of dollars from foreign countries just to give it to countries that are all to willing to murder the very people we send to their country to ensure peace? Some might argue around the world that our presence in those countries is provocation enough. But that isn't the case Fayetteville's Weather Forecast Friday September 20 September 21 September 22 Saturday Fayetteville's Weather Forecast Thursday when we are helping them in the midst of humanitarian crises. That isn't the case when we are orchestrating trade with them or ensuring their people do not go hungry. We gave Libya $2.5 million last year; Egypt $1.55 billion amd more than $100 million to Tunisia. In the past several years, we have given Sudan billions of dollars. All countries whose citizens attacked our embassies because of a film that was made by an individual and not supported by our government? I think that money would make a nice dent in paying down our national debt. In other words, at what point does America return to being America? And, finally, when will we see and hear the rage and outcry of all of our elected officials both Republican and Democrat? I hope it is soon. The average citizen is frustrated, sad and weary. Only the ignorant are content. Your comments are welcome. Thank you for reading Up & Coming Weekly. BILL BOWMAN, Publisher, Up & Coming Weekly, COMMENTS? editor@upandcomingweekly.com.
