One-Stop Voting Will Be Available
of Elections from Oct. 18 through Nov. 3. Residents can register and vote on the same day if they have missed the 25-day deadline for voter registration. The Board of Elections has moved from 301 E. Russell St. to a new location in the E. Newton Smith Center at 227 Fountainhead Lane, in the county's former public health center. To use One-Stop voting, a citizen must go to a One-Stop Voting Site or Board of Elections only during the One-Stop Absentee requirements, go online at www.co.cumberland.nc.us/elections or call the Board of Elections at (910) 678-7733.

Program Available at Health Department The Cumberland County Department of Public Health is offering a Diabetes Self-Management Education program (DSME) to help diabetes patients take control of their health by improving lifestyle habits and reducing the risk of complications caused by diabetes. The DSME program begins with an initial assessment appointment with a registered nurse, followed by two group sessions covering diabetes education and nutrition. Follow-up visits will be scheduled at three months and one year after the sessions. The program offers helpful incentives, examples of healthy foods and ways to build your own healthy eating plan, and educational material on how to live with diabetes. Patients must be referred by a primary care physician. The
program is not administered on a walk-in basis. If you have been diagnosed with diabetes, pre-diabetes or gestational diabetes, Department at (910) 433-3695. Medicare and Blue Cross Blue Shield health insurance will cover the DSME. If you have another type of insurance, call the health department at (910) 433-3617 or 433-3789 to determine available coverage.
