Emily says that the juice used in the jelly came from pomegranates picked by her Dad from her family's tree, pressed by her grandpa and prepared by her Auntie and Grandmother – it was a family affair. Judy's Country Store is just one of many attractions at the Annual Jubilee and will feature homemade jams and jellies, baked goods, craft items and fresh produce for pur- chase. Lester Shumway Drowns at Jellys Ferry; Rope Snaps Lester N. Shumway, aged 14, was drowned at Jellys Ferry Saturday evening, when he fell into the Sacramento river. The boy had been picking fruit all day, and with a number of others engaged in the same work started for the stream. With youthful enthusi- asm he ran ahead of his companions and jumped for a ring at the end of a rope which had been tied to a tree overhanging the water. Golden time for kids planned In celebration of 18 years of service to the community, The Gold Exchange is saying thank you by having a kid's gold rush day. Kids 17 and younger will find the stuff that glitters with celebrity author and prospecting team Tom and Fran Leftwich 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8. There are 30 spots available, so pre-register for a time slot. Kids can go fishing for coin treasures with a metal detec- tor. Presidential dollars and silver dimes will be among the treasures the kids will find. Both gold panning and metal detecting events are free for kids. Baskin Robbins ice cream will be a part of the festivities along with a free DVD to all kids. All of these fun and exciting events will take place in front of the store at 413 Walnut St. Historical Society to meet The Tehama County Genealogical & Historical Society will be at the Tehama County Museum Jubilee Sept 8 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The group will have information about the society and the history of Tehama County. The book "150 years of photos and history 1856-2006" will be available for sale.
