The following defend- ants were sentenced in Tehama County Superior Court, according to the Te- hama County District At- torney's Office: Recent State/Local Prison Commitments: People v. Trevor Hill, three counts Second De- gree Commercial Burglary with Special Allegation — Prior Felony Conviction Brief History: Corning Police Department was dis- patched to Corning Auto Spa Car Wash regarding a burglary that had oc- curred earlier that day. An employee realized items were stolen from inside the locked building including an air compressor, a Cen- tral Pneumatic air com- pressor and a leaf blower. The surveillance showed that the defendant used a set of keys to open the door. A short while later, the de- fendant walked out with an air compressor. The de- fendant left and returned to the business for a sec- ond time. The defendant walked out from the store with a Pneumatic brand air compressor. The defen- dant left and returned 15 minutes later. The defen- dant entered the building and left the building with a backpack leaf blower. Sentenced to 5 years and 4 months state prison. People v. Malachi Pugh, Evading an Officer, Willful Disregard. Brief History: The defen- dant was pulled over by Te- hama County Sheriff's Of- fice. The defendant turned off the vehicle's light. The deputy believed that some- thing was thrown out of the passenger side win- dow. However, he was un- sure of his observation. The defendant then turned on the vehicle and acceler- ated away at a high rate of speed. The vehicle trav- eled at speeds in excess of 80 mph on Rawson Road. Another deputy joined the pursuit with sirens acti- vated. The defendant ac- celerated onto Dusty Way at speeds of approximately 90 mph while crossing over double yellow lines. The de- fendant turned as it ap- proached Paskenta Road from Dusty Way, and con- tinued northbound. The defendant continued on Paskenta Road until it reached Red Bank Creek, which was flooded, and the defendant could not cross. The vehicle slid to a skid- ding stop just short of the creek. The defendant and a passenger exited the car and began fleeing on foot from the vehicle. The de- fendant and the passenger refused to stop despite the deputy's commands. The deputy then released the K-9 Unit, and it took the de- fendant to the ground. The passenger also was taken down by the K-9 unit. Sentenced to 2 years state prison. RecentCountyJail Commitments: People v. Joseph Alex- ander Macias, Assault by Means Likely to Produce Great Bodily Injury; Bat- tery With Serious Bodily Injury. Brief History: The defen- dant attacked the victim, a trash truck driver. The vic- tim was picking up trash. A trash can was overfilled so the victim was removing excess trash bags from the trash can. While the victim was removing the excess trash bags, a female started yelling at the victim for re- moving the trash bags. The victim attempted to ex- plain to the female that he was not going to take the excess trash bags. While the victim was removing the trash bags, he uninten- tionally bumped into the female while handling the trash bag. The defendant drove his car and stopped it in front of the trash truck, blocking the victim. The defendant then struck the defendant in the face with his fists several times. As a result of the strikes, the vic- tim had to be transported to the hospital. Sentenced to 5 years of formal probation, 364 days in the county jail, and 160 hours community service. People v. Wally Reda- monti, Possession of Con- traband In the Jail Brief History: The de- fendant was arrested due to an outstanding warrant. While being processed in jail, the defendant was ad- monished that it is a crime to bring any contraband into the facility. A correc- tional officer searched the defendant's person and lo- cated a bindle of metham- phetamine in the defen- dant's shirt pocket. Sentenced to 3 years formal probation, 60 days in the county jail, and 80 hours community service. People v. Sierra Taylor, Evading an Officer, Willful Disregard. Brief History: Red Bluff Police Department was dis- patched due to the fact that the defendant was suicidal and stated that she was go- ing to crash her vehicle into a semi-truck. Officers spot- ted the vehicle occupied by the defendant driving down Walnut Street. The defen- dant saw the police offi- cer and accelerated, failing to stop at a red light. Even though the police officer's lights and sirens were on, the chase lasted for about 10 minutes through down- town Red Bluff. The defen- dant failed to stop at two stop signs, drove through another red light and sped up to 60 mph. The defen- dant then got onto Inter- state 5 driving at 85 mph. The defendant swerved and cut off a tractor trailer be- fore exiting at Wilcox. Sentenced to 3 years for- mal probation, 120 days county jail and 80 hours community service. In running his motel, Patel employed people to provide maid and maintenance services. Based on an initial investi- gation, it was determined that Patel failed to provide accurate information to his workers' compensation in- surance carrier. Addition- ally, Patel used a motel cus- tomer's credit card to his advantage without the con- sent of the customer. Addi- tionally, as a motel owner and operator, Patel was en- trusted by the city of Red Bluff to collect from each motel guest Transient Oc- cupancy Tax and to provide such tax to the city each month. Based on an inves- tigation, it appears that Patel significantly under- reported the taxes due to the city. In addition to the listed charges, Patel falsi- fied documents on behalf of two employees so that they could unlawfully ob- tain welfare benefits. Patel was arrested on a Tehama County warrant in Florida and agreed to be extradited to Tehama County. Patel surrendered his passport by order of the court.
