The United States gov- ernment has thrown out a nationwide dragnet for spies. Every city and county as well as state of- ficers have become a part of the system of secret ser- vice agents. In this county Sheriff Boyd has received his instruction from the United States marshal to arrest any person caught maligning the government, the flag or the President of the United States. The au- thorities will naturally look upon any person that de- nounces the government as unfriendly to the gov- ernment and a potential source of mischief. Men arrested with be delivered to government authorities and measures taken to pre- vent them from serving the enemy and injuring the United States. — April 12, 1917 100YEARSAGO... The scholarships are both for current college students. One scholar- ship is for a student who is majoring in an agricul- tural field and one is for a student who is not ma- joring in an agricultural field but comes from a Te- hama county family in- volved in an agricultural business. The members of the scholarship committee se- lect the scholarship win- ners based on the quality of an interview with the student and the student's autobiography, financial need, understanding and potential contribution to agriculture, understand- ing of the cattle industry and grade point average.
