Sisters are all smiles during formal recruitment. pi beta phi 3 Colorado alpha Sisterhood Stays Focused on academics, gains 112 new angels C olorado Alpha is so proud of all the progress we've made in academics, the money we've raised for our philanthropy, the success of recruitment this fall, the incredible new women who have joined the Pi Beta Phi sisterhood and all of the fun events we've had since the spring semester. ACADeMiC ACHieveMeNTS We are ranked sixth out of nine sororities at CU Boulder for academics. In the past year, we increased our GPA by 0.2. Our term GPA is currently a 3.103 and our cumulative GPA is a 3.035. "We have been increasing scholarship by recognizing individual members for achieving academic success and encouraging other chapter members to do the same. We have been giving out Starbucks gift cards for achieving the highest GPA out of their New Member class," Whitney Stanton '14, Vice President of Membership Development and Academic Chairman, said. PHiLANTHroPiC eFForTS We raised more than $14,000 at Arrowspike this fall; the money raised will benefit Literacy Initiatives. Each fraternity team competed against each other in a volleyball competition, and Kappa Sigma won the competition. Last semester, we did Pi Phi Pizookie, where we gave out cookies with ice cream, as well as hosted Pie a Pi Phi. Between both of those philanthropic events, we raised over $7,000 for Pi Beta Phi Foundation's Friendship Fund. We are continuing to set up trunk shows to raise more money for our philanthropy for the remainder of the year. "I am so excited about how much money we've raised! I feel like we're truly making a difference," Paige Galvin '14, Vice President of Philanthropy, said. SiSTerHooD GAiNS STreNGTH iN NuMBerS We had 104 women accept bids during formal recruitment and eight more women joined our chapter in October through continuous open bidding. We are thrilled about our New Member class, and we loved initiating these wonderful women into Colorado Alpha in November. "We are so happy to welcome 112 new angels into the Colorado Alpha Chapter this semester! The whole chapter did an amazing job executing a values-based recruitment, and I can't wait for the memories to come with our new sisters," Delaney Burger '14, Vice President of Membership Development, said. CHAPTer ACTiviTieS So far this fall, we celebrated Homecoming with Chi Psi and TKE and had a successful animal-themed date dash to Boondocks. A mixer with Phi Psi and ΣAE is in the works, and a philanthropy sisterhood event and a skate city sisterhood event are planned this fall. CAMPuS LeADerSHiP One member who holds a campus leadership position is Stephanie DiGuiseppe '14—not only does she serve on the Colorado Alpha Executive Council, but she also is an executive member for the Public Relation Student Society of America (PRSSA). "Being a part of the first PRSSA chapter at CU Boulder is such an exciting feeling, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for this program," Stephanie said. THANkFuL For SuPPorT oF PAreNTS We recently hosted dad's weekend and we absolutely loved having all of the dads come out for a barbecue and games. We also hosted a Parents' Weekend, where we encouraged all parents to come to Colorado Alpha for a tour of the house. We were so thankful to have everyone visit and loved meeting all of the wonderful parents. CoLorADo ALPHA exCiTeD For FuTure eNDeAvorS We look forward to our upcoming elections for chapter officers and to pass down our positions to the next hardworking group. We are excited for what the next year holds for our sisterhood. We thank our wonderful alumnae and parents for all the support you give to the Colorado Alpha Chapter of Pi Beta Phi. Please stop by the chapter house anytime you are in Boulder! Loyally, Nicole Whiteside '14 Chapter President nicole.whiteside@colorado.edu
