OCTOBER 12-18, 2016 UCW 21 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM FTCC's Spring Lake Campus Assists Students by ELAINE T. COLE-ABINLEKO Have you visited Fayetteville Technical Community College's campus in Spring Lake? The beautiful campus is located at 171 Laketree Boulevard and offers counseling services as well as a complete menu of services similar to those available at the Fayetteville campus to assist students in making the college experience positive. Many residents of Cumberland County and its surrounding communities are surprised when they learn about the valuable resources available to students through the Spring Lake campus. In addition to completing academic approvals and a full range of counseling services, FTCC Spring Lake Counseling offers retention efforts and helps to transition students from Corporate & Continuing Education to Curriculum Programs, so that these students can become more marketable and upwardly mobile in the workforce. Counseling entails many activities but primarily involves understanding the student's needs, recognizing the resources available, and linking all these together to create a climate of success. Counseling also provides career information to help students understand the job opportunities available when they complete their education. Because organization and good study habits are basic and essential in achieving educational goals, counselors provide workshops and presentations to students on topics, such as Time Management, Study Skills, Working in Groups and Testing. Through workshops, students gain confidence to overcome barriers and succeed academically. Some of the advantages students express that they enjoy through the Spring Lake campus are the tranquil atmosphere, beautiful surroundings, and the feeling of belonging to a caring family. With a smaller population, counselors and staff at the FTCC Spring Lake campus are able to spend more time helping students with various needs. Many students find that a more personal relationship with counselors and staff empowers them with additional support and helps them approach learning situations with confidence. FTCC's Spring Lake campus has become a flagship in the community, providing excellent service to students and a convenient location with easily-accessible instructors and staff who work hard to help students succeed. The Spring Lake campus also offers resources including a computer lab, auditorium and gymnasium. The Spring Lake Branch of the Cumberland County Public Library system is conveniently located next to the Spring Lake campus at 101 Laketree Boulevard. The best way to learn about the many opportunities available through the FTCC Spring Lake campus is to experience it yourself ! Give us a call at (910) 678-1000 or drop by 171 Laketree Boulevard in Spring Lake. Registration for Fall II 8-week classes is currently underway, with classes beginning October 13. Full-service registration is available at the Spring Lake campus, as well as testing services, counseling services, and financial aid assistance. I can be reached at colee@faytechcc.edu to offer counseling services. We look forward to serving students at the FTCC Spring Lake campus. Make the smart choice for your education — FTCC! Many residents of Cumberland County and its surrounding communities are surprised when they learn about the valuable resources available to students through the Spring Lake campus. ELAINE T.
