Airport Receives Grant for Terminal Expansion Fayetteville Regional Airport has received a $10 million grant to expand the terminal building at Fayetteville Regional Airport. The grant is part of an overall $30 million project to renovate and upgrade the terminal at the Airport, which was built in 1969. The $10 million grant is provided by the Federal Aviation Administration's (FAA) Airport Improvement Program (AIP), which is funded by the Airport and Airway Trust Fund as part of the annual T-HUD Appropriations bill. The $30 million upgrade of the terminal will be paid for mostly by the federal government, with the rest coming from Airport revenues. The Airport operates on its own budget. The renovation project will be done in phases and includes major construction work, including replacement of Concourse A and a bigger passenger screening area. The completion date is scheduled for the summer of 2019. Local architect Gordon Johnson is overseeing the project, which will result in a larger space, natural lighting and a new restaurant area for passengers waiting at the gates. The Airport is devoting a portion of the renovation budget to contract businesses predominantly owned by minorities, women, the disabled or military veterans. The last major renovation at the Airport cost about $7 million and was done in three phases - in 1999, 2003 and 2006. For more information about the Airport, log onto www.FlyFay.com.
