Cooper TheAssociatedPress BEALE AIR FORCE BASE The pilot who died af- ter ejecting from a U2 spy plane that crashed in Northern California was identified Wednesday as Lt. Col. Ira S. Eadie. Eadie was assigned to the 1st Reconnaissance Squadron at Beale Air Force Base near Sacra- mento, California. The Air Force did not release his age or hometown. Another pilot who survived sustained injuries that are not life-threatening and is now recov- ering in good condition at a local medical facil- ity, base officials said. The surviving pilot was not identified. Among the events scheduled are Wear Purple Day Oct. 5 with a 7 p.m. Candlelight Walk in front of the Tehama County Superior Courthouse; at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 22 will be the 11th annual Trivia Night fundraiser to raise funds for Alternatives to Violence is held at the Community Center and a Halloween Photo Shoot at Studio 530 Photog- raphy at 3 p.m. Oct. 31 will collect canned food for Alternatives to Violence. The crime of domestic violence violates an in- dividual's privacy and dignity, security and hu- manity due to systematic use of physical, emo- tional, sexual, psychological and economical abuse including abuse to children and the el- derly, said Linda Lucas, Alternative To Violence board member. "The problem of domestic violence is not con- fined to a group or groups of people, but cuts across all economic, racial and societal barriers, according to the proclamation. The impact of domestic violence is wide rang- ing, affecting individuals, children, families, com- munities and society as a whole, throughout the United States and the world, and in our commu- nity, Lucas said. The proclamation emphasizes the importance of community involvement in breaking the cycle of domestic violence. "It's quite an honor," said Shepherd, 91. Shepherd said he remem- bers well the events of World War II, particularly the in- famous battles his division was involved in including D- Day and Battle of the Bulge, the latter earning him and the rest of the 101st Air- borne Screaming Eagles a nickname. The majority of the remodel is going toward flooring, electrial and light work. The roof is in need of repairing and the sewer lines are being replaced. Tehama County Admin- istrative Services Director Julie Sisneros said the ex- isting building, which was built in the 1970s, was in good shape and has given the county a good shell to work with. The vast majority of the remodeling work is in the inside with the replace- ment of flooring, electri- cal and lighting, Sisneros said. The roof of the build- ing was in need of repair- ing and the sewer lines within the building had some issues and are being replaced.
