MAY 27, 1943 – JULY 27, 2016 The Greater Fayetteville Chamber would like to extend our sympathy to the family of Floyd Shorter, his daughters, Dr. Lia D. Shorter and Dr. Melanie Shorter-Cooper and two grandchildren, Fallon Sanae Cooper and Farrah Melan Cooper. Floyd Shorter spent his life giving to this community. His influence and direction at the Fayetteville Business Center linked to Fayetteville State University changed opportunities into thriving businesses. Mr. Shorter began his service in this position in August 2001. In 2009 Rep. Marvin Lucas presented Mr. Shorter with a certificate from the State House of Representatives and the Governor's Old North State Award. The award's inscription read, 'You believe every day of your life, even in the most challenging times, when people tell you 'No. You can't.' You say, 'Watch me.' Mr. Shorter had served on the board of the Greater Fayetteville Chamber since 2005. His wisdom and grace will be missed by all. George Breece has shared "Floyd Shorter was a bridge builder, an exceptionally good and decent man and someone our community and Chamber could always count on, and someone I was proud to call my friend. Floyd Shorter never ever shied away for standing up for what was right and he will always be remembered as a consensus builder for the greater good. God Bless his memory".
