AlternativestoViolence is gearing up for Trivia Night 2016 scheduled for October 22 and is seeking community members and businesses to join to sup- port ending domestic vio- lence in Tehama County. Trivia Night is the orga- nization's only fund rais- ing event of the year, with more than 400 members of the community coming together for an evening of trivia, fun and fund- raising. Funds raised sup- port the important work of Alternatives to Violence — a safe place to escape abusive relationships and get assistance with pro- tective orders, education and counseling to build new lives with hope for the future. Trivia Night is your op- portunity to help Alterna- tives to Violence continue this challenging and life- changing work. Supporting Trivia Night is easy and fun. Plan to bring your family, friends, employees and co-workers by reserving a table for 8 for a $120 donation. Give them a night they'll never forget while helping to raise awareness and sup- porting the cost of put- ting on this night of fun and community education. Donating to the si- lent auction and Trivia Night's two ever-popular raffles — gift certificates, retail items, passes to your event or attraction, at whatever level is com- fortable for you — helps raise vital core support for the program and gets the word out that your busi- ness supports healthy re- lationships. Organizers are includ- ing a save-the-date flyer to help plan your support. Please post it in your of- fice or place of business to help get the word out. For further information about the organization and Trivia Night, visit www.atvrb.org or find it on Facebook. Tickets can be pur- chased at The Gold Ex- change, or to arrange pick-up of merchandise donations or ticket deliv- ery, call 528-0300 or write to trivia@atvrb.org. Alternatives to Violence is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation. All donations are tax deductible. Tax- payer ID is #68-0330191 All merchandise do- nated to raffles or the si- lent auction will be pre- sented with your name and logo clearly visible, so be sure to include a busi- ness card with each item you donate. ALTERNATIVESTOVIOLENCE Donationssought for Trivia Night auction, raffles Charles Mueller Truck- ing and the Red Bluff Round-Up Association re- cently presented Mercy Foundation North with a check for $16,500 to help support the RN Navigator Program. Each year during the Red Bluff Round-Up the en- tire community comes to- gether as local businesses bid on rodeo day auctions to support their local hos- pital. This year, first time bidders Charles Mueller Trucking won the auction with a bid of $14,000. The Tough Enough to Wear Pink campaign is a way for rodeos and west- ern events to promote breast cancer awareness and to raise money lo- cally. The campaign was started in 2004 when en- trepreneur and breast can- cer survivor Terry Wheat- ley found a way to blend the support of the west- ern community with a campaign against breast cancer. Since its inception the campaign has raised more than $10 million for breast cancer charities, most of which stays within local communities. "Tough Enough to Wear Pink is a community-wide event and many businesses, service organizations, and individuals participate in the event," said Jolene Ke- men, a Round-Up direc- tor. "Since 2006, Tough Enough to Wear Pink ac- tivities have brought in over $360,000 in dona- tions that benefit St. Eliz- abeth's Community Hospi- tal's breast cancer related services." St. Elizabeth thank the above mentioned sponsors. "We are more than grateful to the Red Bluff Round-Up Association and all the organizations in Te- hama County that partici- pate in Tough Enough to Wear Pink for their contin- ued support and generos- ity, without their help the excellent level of service provided in state-of-the- art centers would not be possible," President Todd Smith said. Dear Mary: I just read your recent col- umn about the ASUS Chromebook laptop, and I wanted to send a be- lated thank you. A cou- ple years ago I needed to replace my laptop. I had read about the ASUS lap- top on your blog, and I purchased one. The price fit well within my bud- get, and I have been very happy with it. Thank you very much! — Wendy Dear Wendy: Thanks for letting me know how happy you are with your Chromebook. The ASUS Chromebook is an amaz- ing laptop for what it costs — about $269. Dear Mary: You must be able to read my mind. I've been meaning to write you to ask if you have any recommenda- tions for dish towels. Our home is filled with lux- urious dish towels from high-end home furnish- ing stores. They look good, but I cannot wipe up a single stain with them. How is it possi- ble someone could make a cloth that is completely nonabsorbent? I'm tired of dish towels that look nice, but can't even dry my hands. I am purchas- ing a set of the Utopia bar mop towels today — the ones you so highly recommend. It sounds like they are exactly what I need. Please, keep read- ing my mind. — Bronson Dear Bronson: You are not going to be disap- pointed. I have 5 dozen of these perfect, small kitchen towels, and I use them with aban- don — like many peo- ple use paper towels. It's nothing for me to go through eight or 10 of them while preparing and cleaning up a sin- gle meal — for two peo- ple! I have a small ham- per in the kitchen, and I just toss them in there. I launder them in hot wa- ter and detergent with cup of white vinegar dur- ing the final rinse to re- move all of the detergent. That keeps them soft and fluffy. About once a month I add bleach dur- ing the wash to keep them white. I can't wait to hear your review. Dear Mary: What is the best way to get our fifth wheel clean? We live in the Pacific Northwest, and during the winter moss grows on the fiber- glass exterior. Thanks. — Laurel Dear Laurel: There is a product called Wet & Forget that is a moss, mold, mildew and algae stain remover. It comes highly concentrated. It gets to work once diluted with water. Just spray it on. Each time it rains (It rains a lot where you live, right?) Wet & For- get gently removes the moss, mold and mildew. You don't need to scrub or rinse! It really does work. The good news is that Wet & Forget does not contain bleach or tox- ins; it is noncaustic and nonacidic. That makes it safe to use in areas where there may be chil- dren, pets and or vegeta- tion. This product works on any surface you can imagine, from aluminum, to brick, to cement, to stone, to stucco, to other textured surfaces. I'm quite certain this is ex- actly what you're look- ing for to clean up your moss-laden trailer — and keep it clean. As always, let me know what hap- pens.
