UP & COMING WEEKLY'S UP & COM I NG W EEKLY 'S CUMBERLAND Expanded Times For Kindergarten Physicals Public safety and mental health professionals were honored at the fourth annual Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) Awards ceremony June 29 at the Cumberland County Detention Center. CIT is a jail diversion program designed to provide a specialized response to individuals experiencing a crisis related to mental illness. Awards were presented to the following recipients: Deputy of the Year: Cumberland County Sheriff 's Deputy Duvan Sanchez Officer of the Year: Spring Lake Police Sgt. Melton Brown & Fayetteville Police Officer Jeffery Prevatte Detention Officer of the Year: Cumberland County Sheriff 's Sgt. Anita Johnson Paramedic of the Year: Lt. Leslie Campbell, Cumberland County Emergency Medical Services Telecommunicator of the Year: Marisol Olivo, Fayetteville Police Department Trainer of the Year: Robeson County Sheriff 's Sgt. Crisis Intervention Team Receives Honors The Cumberland County Department of Public Health Child Health Clinic has expanded times for walk-in physicals for children entering kindergarten on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month, from 1 to 7 p.m. Due to the amount of time required for physicals, all patients must be signed in by 5:15 p.m. State law requires any child entering kindergarten to get a physical. Medicaid, private insurance or self-pay are acceptable forms of payment. Fees for service are based on family size and income. For appointments, call 910-433-3600, extension 1. The health department is located at 1235 Ramsey St. Register of Deeds Holds School Supply Drive The Register of Deeds office is holding its annual school supply drive for homeless Cumberland County school children through Aug. 1. The office would like to collect supplies to fill 800 book bags. Donated items can be dropped off Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Register of Deeds office in Room 114 of the Cumberland County Courthouse, 117 Dick St. The following school supplies are needed: pencils, pens, notebooks, rulers, composition books, folders, notebook paper, pencil sharpeners, erasers, glue sticks, crayons, toothbrushes, toothpaste, hand sanitizer and toothbrush cases. In addition to school supplies, gift cards or cash donations will be accepted. However, checks will not be accepted. Once all the school supplies are collected, they will be turned over to the Fayetteville Police Department and Cumberland County Schools for distribution.
