JUNE 22-28, 2016 UCW 17 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Fall Registration at FTCC: Sign up Now by DR. LOUANNA CASTLEMAN It's the time of year when people just want to go to the beach and take it easy. It's also the time of year to get ready to start college. Fayetteville Technical Community College is registering for fall 2016 classes right now, and the sooner you get started, the sooner you can get to the beach! Complete the free FTCC application and the free financial aid application now, and when classes start Aug. 15, everything will be ready. It is best to do everything as early as possible to get the best choices for classes. Earlier is better for financial aid, too. Sometimes it takes a while to process financial aid, so getting started early ensures that financial aid is in place. Go to www.faytechcc.edu and click on the "Get Started" link from the front page. The link goes directly to the free College Foundation of North Carolina application used at FTCC. Once the application is complete, an email is immediately sent to the email address provided within the application. A hard-copy letter is also mailed to the physical address provided by the student on the CFNC application. The email outlines the steps for admissions and provides links to forms to request a transcript from high school or other colleges and links to financial aid and the assessment and placement office. There is also a link to connect with an admissions counselor. The email contains links to the Veterans Services and military programs, the health counselor and the Spring Lake Campus and Fort Bragg Center. FTCC mails a letter that provides log-on and password set-up information for student email and WebAdvisor accounts. All applicants receive a student email account and a WebAdvisor account even before they are registered for classes. This is important because with FTCC's green initiatives, FTCC mails the first letter through use of the postal system to a home address and uses student email accounts for subsequent communications. Additionally, WebAdvisor is an excellent management tool for both applicants and students. With WebAdvisor, applicants and students can manage financial aid, register for classes, contact an adviser, view grades, request transcripts, and (for students who are paying out of pocket) set up an interest-free payment plan. Once the FTCC application is complete, please visit www.FAFSA.gov. Please note that this application process is free! In fact, if you find you are being charged a fee, you are at the wrong website! Apply for the academic year 2016/2017. Be prepared with tax documents. Most students who live at home will use their parents' income tax information, but there are extenuating circumstances that may change this. Visit the Tony Rand Student Center Room 2 for help. In this high-tech world, it is important to continue to provide personal, face- to-face assistance, and we are proud to offer that personal touch. We provide assistance with everything to include the FTCC application, financial aid, assessment preparation, transcript evaluation and registration. Visit the Tony Rand Student Center Information Desk to begin the admissions and financial aid process today. DR. LOUANNA CASTLEMAN, FTCC Director of Admissions, Contributing Writer. COMMENTS?
