The event, which had eight different instructors from U-Jam and Zumba, had everything from basic beginner styles that were easier to follow to more intense workouts with participants of a variety of ages and backgrounds. There were about 40-45 people in attendance. "This is the first time we've done something like this," said Salisbury Teacher Darbie An- drews. "This fundraiser was in- spired by our work with the li- brary and Todd (Deck) and the book club. We wanted to give back to the library and let the commu- nity know how important literacy and fitness are to us." Andrews teaches Zumba as a class at the high school and thought this would be a great way to tie into the Expect More move- ment of expecting more in terms of literacy and health. The idea is to expect more in the areas of fit- ness and literacy in hopes of see- ing less of problem areas such as drug addiction, she said. A closure went into affect about 12:30 p.m. Tuesday from Walton Avenue, just past the Adobe Chevron, up to State Route 36W near U-Haul. Traffic on the scanner about 12:30 p.m. indicated the park- ing lot to The Home Depot was closed. Red Bluff Police assisted with traffic control in addition to at least two sets of barricades. "We are sheltering in place, which means no one in or out," said CHP Public Information Of- ficer Troy Somavia about 1:45 p.m. "A suspicious device was found that looks like a hand grenade in the center of the vegetation area by the CHP sign at the entrance. One of our maintenance men no- ticed it and took a photo. It's an army green gas canister with a hand release and duck tape on the bottom." The Shasta County Bomb Squad was contacted and arrived on-scene about 2 p.m., he said. There was some kind of electric device inside the suspicious de- vice, which was exploded, Soma- via said. The bomb squad cleared the area at 3:45 p.m. More information will be re- leased as it becomes available.
