VISIT US @ www.drelloway.com Celebrating Catholic Schools Week Catholic Schools across the country are celebrating Catholic Schools Week and Sacred Heart Parish School has several events throughout the week planned. Monday evening it had an open house dur- ing which members of the public could come and see the school and parents saw the projects their children have been involved in. Each class displayed an art project made by the class to be auctioned off at Little Reno Night on Saturday. The children have been paired together for Big Brother, Big Sister and Little Brother, Little Sister events throughout the week. The week will include a penny drive to help the victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Students at Sacred Heart Parish School pose for a picture Monday morning at an assembly where the children formed a cross to celebrate Catholic Schools Week. Police go over proper rules for bicycle lanes The Red Bluff Police Department recently received several questions regarding bicycle lanes and their proper use. This information is being provided to assist the motoring public with safely using and recognizing bicycle lanes. Red Bluff has established bicycle lanes on South Jackson Street from Musick Street past the city limits to Rawson Road. The bicycle lanes are marked by erected signs and pavement markings. A bicycle lane is commonly defined as a por- tion of the roadway that has been designated by striping, signing, and pavement markings for the preferential and exclusive use of bicyclists. Bicycle lanes are an important commuting tool for cyclists, but not everyone knows how to use them. The California Vehicle Code states, in part, no person shall drive a motor vehicle in a bicycle lane established on a roadway except as follows: 1. To park where parking is permitted 2. To enter or leave the roadway 3. To prepare for and turn within a distance of 200 feet from the intersection What does this all mean? Here are a few examples: • Vehicles may cross into a bicycle lane when making a turn — after yielding to cyclists in the lane, if any. • Vehicles may cross a bicycle lane when entering or leaving an alley or driveway. Vehicles may not stop or park in a bicycle lane. • Vehicles may not use a bicycle lane as a nor- mal lane of travel. Bicycle lanes may be used by motorized wheel chairs, motorized scooters and electric bikes. Pedestrians are not permitted to use a bicycle lane where there is an adjacent sidewalk or path. For questions about the use of bicycle lanes, call RBPD at 527-3131.
