Main St. Red Bluff, Ca 529-9488 BUY TWO GET 3RD FREE! equal or lesser value Anything on the menu Dogs fetch big money, big crowd By TANG LOR DN Staff Writer Wii, a 1-year-old bor- der collie, ran around, jumped at Diane Myers' legs, then sat patiently waiting for her new owner to come claim her. It was her way of say- ing goodbye to Myers. Wii has been trained to work with cattle and is a very good dog, Myers said. "It's really all in them. We just have to bring it out and have them do what we want them to do," she said. Despite the year-long training and time spent with Wii, Myers has no second thoughts about handing her off. She anx- iously waited to meet Wii's new owner, saying she didn't want to be the last seller still out there at night waiting to give her dog away. "She's going to an environment where she will be used for what she's bred and trained to do," she said. Thirteen other stock dogs like Wii were sold during the Stock Dog Sale at the fairgrounds Friday, with prices going as high as $10,500. Brian Jacobs and Jen- nifer Quinton, of Herald, bought Moose, a 3-year- old border collie, for $2,450. Jacobs, a dog breeder, has several dogs and he was looking for a stud for breeding. This is his first time buying a dog at a auction, but it will be money well spent, he said. He usually buys his dogs when they are pups and trains them himself. The Water for Life Dog, Carrs Tex, sold for $17,500, the highest priced dog of the sale. In an effort to raise money for the nonprofit, Carrs Tex was bought and resold three times, twice by one buyer, before the third buyer decided he wanted to take him home. The proceeds of Carrs Tex's auctions will be donated to Water for Life, Inc., a group that advo- cates agricultural water rights. ——— Tang Lor can be reached at 527-2153, Ext. 110 or by e-mail at tlor@redbluffdailynews.co m.
