By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer The Tehama County CattleWomen had quite the variety of desserts to accompany the tri-tip, ranch style beans and salad at the annual Bull Sale Luncheon. Several customers wan- dering through the line at the luncheon, which bene- fits the CattleWomen's beef promotion projects, com- mented that they didn't know which one to chose. "It's been steady," said Cathy Tobin, past president. Tobin said the group was hoping to get as many as 300 people, but wasn't sure how many would be com- ing for the luncheon with several other vendors closer to the sale making it com- petitive. Ross Turner, one of sev- eral helping in the back, said the crew cooking had enough meat prepared for about 200 to 250 people. Redding resident and Shasta County Cattle- Women member Jackie Schneider of Laughing Horse Ranch has been coming to the gelding auc- tion for seven years and said she always makes sure to come to the luncheon to support her fellow Cattle- Women. Diane Breyer of Suther- lin, Ore. said she has been coming to the sale for about four years and this was her first year visiting the lun- cheon. "We just thought we'd try it after all these years of missing it," Breryer said. Bobbie Houghton of Red Bluff has been coming for about 20 years to visit the booths in the trade show and said she always makes sure to come to the lun- cheon. "They do a wonderful job (preparing the lun- cheon)," Houghton said. "They're very dedicated ladies." Nancy Anglemyer of Shingletown said she has been coming for four or five years. "We come here because we can sit down and it's for a good cause," Angelmyer said. Laurie Charter of Arbuckle said she comes every year. "These ladies cook good food," Charter said. "We come every year and we wouldn't miss it." ——— Julie Zeeb can be reached at 527-2153, extension 115 or jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.c om. Saturday, January 30, 2010 – Daily News – 7A 2 B.B.Q. Bull riders to salute veterans A Western heritage of honoring veterans will con- tinue Saturday night at the Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale as it honors military veterans during the Grand Entry of the popular bull riding event. Veterans spanning 70 years of service will be present for the tribute. "This is something we are proud to do," says orga- nizer Pam Fiock. "We all owe so much to the brave men and women who have served their country, and this is a small way to say thanks." The honor is even a family affair. Ernie Sanford, a veteran of World War II, will be in attendance with his son, Kenneth, a veteran of the Viet- nam War. Other local veterans who will represent all the mili- tary men and women include Bill Moore, from the Korean conflict; Carlos Gutierrez, from Desert Storm and Desert Shield and Robert DuPont, Iraqi Freedom. A future Army soldier, Kyle Phiager, will be there to show the continuing line of Americans who serve. Phi- ager is a senior at Red Bluff Union High School and is scheduled to leave for basic training in July. The flag will be presented during the Grand Entry by the US Army Honor Guard. "It is really our honor to salute these men and women," said Adam Owens, bull sale manager. "We expect a big crowd for the show; it is nearly always a sellout. It is our hope that the audience will reflect on the service and sacrifice our veterans have provided. We have our freedom because of them, and we are proud to do this." This is the 18th annual bull riding event at the con- clusion of the bull sale week of activities. Again this year, local stock producer Don Kish will present his Buckin' Best Bulls and the cowboys will try to hang on for eight seconds. Tickets can be purchased at the Pauline Davis Pavil- ion box office.
