Job fair REDDING — Northern California National Forests and the National Park Ser- vice will host a job fair 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 30-31 at the Mount Shasta Mall, 900 Dana Drive in Redding. The agencies have more than 200 vacant employ- ment opportunities ranging from student programs to temporary, seasonal and full-time employment for men and women with skills in many different areas. Possible jobs include wildland firefighter — hot- shot, handcrew, helitack, fuels, engine, lookout and prevention, forest techni- cians — recreation, timber, engineering, GIS, wilder- ness and range, biological and earth sciences — fish- eries, botany, hydrology, geology and wildlife and administration — office assistants and receptionists. The fair will describe the different disciplines of the USDA Forest Service and National Park Service and how to apply for a position. Applicants may apply at the Job Fair or online at www.usajobs.gov. Applicants should bring a resume and any support- ing documentation of train- ing or education. Choral Workshop The 15th Annual Petker Choral Workshop and Ecu- menical Worship Service will be offered Feb. 6-7 at the Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff, 838 Jefferson St. The workshop will be under the direction of inter- nationally known conduc- tor and composer Allan Petker. The workshop begins Feb. 6 with registration at 8:30 a.m. and lasts until 4 p.m. The fee for the work- shop is $40, which includes lunch and music. The workshop con- cludes at at 11 a.m. Feb. 7, with an Ecumenical Wor- ship Service, to which the general public is invited. This interdenominational service will be led by the pastors of the Presbyterian Church of Red Bluff, St. Peter's Episcopal Church and the Red Bluff First United Methodist Church. Choir participation is not necessary to attend. Special beef pot roast from Nevada Special Beef Pot Roast from The Real Ranch Cookbook of Elko County, CattleWomen of Nevada. 2-3 lb. boneless roast or stew meat garlic powder 1 medium onion (peeled and cut into wedges) potatoes, peeled and cut in half peeled baby carrots 1 pkg. Knorr brown gravy mix 3/ 4 cups red burgundy wine 1/3 cup water oregano leaves or sweet basil Preheat oven to 350‚F. Sprinkle meat with garlic powder. Marilyn Sustacha of Lamoille, Nev. uses a black roaster — put meat in center of roaster. Place potatoes, onion, and carrots around meat. Salt and pepper vegetables. Mix gravy mix, wine and water in bowl. Stir until smooth. Pour over vegetables and meat. Sprinkle with oregano leaves or sweet basil over meat. Cover. Cook 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Good either as a stew or roast.
