"Ifitwasnotforallofthosewho are involved we would not have this small town event, so we do appreciate everybody." —J.C.Pendergraft,CorningChamberofCommercedirector Staff Reports RANCHO TEHAMA RanchoTehamaElementary School was placed on lock down Friday after a woman with blue hair and a trench coat was re- ported to be walking near the school with what appeared to be a rifle on her back. School officials reported around 8:39 a.m. Friday seeing the woman going into a resi- dence that shares a fence with the school just to the south, ac- cording to press release issued Monday by the Tehama County Sheriff's Office. Deputies contacted the woman, Kim- berly Ellen Salazar, 43, of Corning, who said she had a pellet gun with her while she was walking and was wearing a blue wig. Salazar lead the deputies to a travel trailer in the back yard of the residence, where she then told them that she was carrying an unloaded shotgun and not a pellet gun, according to the release. Deputies recovered the shotgun and deter- mined it to have an illegal 16-inch barrel. At 9:13 the school lifted the lock down while Salazar was being questioned. While in the back yard of the residence dep- uties noticed a Dodge pickup reported as stolen from the Redding area. Salazar was accompanied by a man, who was questioned and released at the scene. The California Highway Patrol Air Unit as- sisted deputies while making contact with Sala- zar. Salazar was arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail on the felony charges of possessing stolen property and a short barreled shotgun. Bail was set at $30,000. While the event is a fundraiser with money going to pay for field trips, honor roll and merit award prizes and books that are given to every child at Los Molinos Elementary, it's not just about raising money, said Booster Club Presi- dent Melissa Peters. "We're not trying to make a ton of money," Pe- ters said. "This event is mostly for the community. Some of the parents don't have cars and aren't able to give their kids a gift so this is a way for the child to get a gift and for the parent to take home a memory."
