Evelyn Shaw was appointed to the PWC board in September 2015. She is the first African-American woman to hold the position since the creation of the Public Works Commission in 1905, and will replace Lynne Greene who had served on the board since December 2012. An active member of the community, Mrs. Shaw has served with many organizations in Fayetteville and throughout the Southeast. She has previously served on Fayetteville State University's Capital Campaign and is a past Director of the Dean's Advisory Council of the School of Business at Alabama State University. She was appointed by former Governor Jim Hunt to serve on the Board of Trustees at North Carolina Central University and served as Vice-Chairman for two years during her eight year tenure. She has received the Evelyn Shaw Appointed to PWC Board U.S. Small Business Administrator's Award for Small Business Excellence in Management and served as Chairperson of the Cumberland County Area Mental Health Board. Mrs. Shaw is a previous Chairperson of the Cape Fear Regional Bureau for Community Action, is a past board member of the Fayetteville Arts Council and and is a past member of the Fayetteville Area Chamber of Commerce. She is an active member of The Fayette- ville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc. and attends John Wesley United Methodist Church in Fay- etteville where she has served as a Sunday School Teacher for over 20 years. Mrs. Shaw has been an entrepreneur since 1974 and has served as president of a family business, Shaw Foods, since 1995. She holds a B.S. degree in English from Alabama State University, the M Ed. in Counseling from Alabama State University, Montgomery, Alabama certification from the Executive Management Program at Darmouth College, Hanover New Hamp- shire. Holiday Light Incentive Program Returns Fayetteville PWC employees have reached a significant milestone! Completing more than FIVE MILLION hours worked with no lost-time injuries. Five million hours is no small feat…it's equal to one person working 2500 years! PWC's last lost-time injury occurred in November 2011. The accomplishment was recognized by the North Carolina Department of Labor and marks the first time in the Public Works Commission's nearly 110 year history that employees have surpassed the five million hour mark with no lost-time inju- ries. PWC employees surpassed the four million mark in winter 2014, the three million mark in spring 2014, the two million mark in summer 2013, and have surpassed the one million hour mark more than seven times in the last 17 years. PWC has more than 600 employees who enter confined spaces, work around dangerous electrical voltages, dig trenches 20+ feet deep, handle hazardous chemicals, operate heavy machinery and drive an average of 7,000 miles daily.
