The course will be held every Monday evening for six weeks and will take place at the Cooperative Extension office, 301 East Mountain Dr., Fayetteville. Beekeeping Course Begins Oct. 19 The Cumberland County Public Library and Information Center is hosting the book discussion series "Beyond the Battlefield: Alternative Views of War" this fall at Headquarters Library, 300 Maiden Lane. Local scholars, writers and thinkers lead the discussions that go beyond the battlefield to the emotional consequences of witnessing war. The following are dates and books to be discussed: • Oct. 20 - "All Quiet on the Western Front" by Erich Remarque • Nov. 3 - "The Reader" by Bernhard Schlink • Nov. 17 - "The Coldest War: A Memoir of Korea" by Jim Brady • Dec. 1 - "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien For more information about the book discussion series or other library programs available at the system's eight branches, call 910- 483-7727 or go to cumberland.lib.nc.us. Library Hosts War Book Discussion Series Cumberland County Register of Deeds Deputy Senior Assistant Lisa Scales received the Charles W. Moore Award from the North Carolina Association Registers of Deeds at the association's 63rd annual conference in Concord in September. The Charles W. Moore Award is given annually to a register of deeds assistant or deputy in recognition for outstanding service to the association. Scales has served in the Cumberland County Register of Deeds office for 30 years. Register of Deeds Lee Warren appointed Scales Deputy Senior Assistant in 2014. Register of Deeds Senior Assistant Lisa Scales is recognized by Register of Deeds Lee Warren and Commissioner Larry Lancaster at the Oct. 5 Board of Commissioners meeting. The Cumberland County Board of Elections reminds citizens One-Stop voting dates for the Nov. 3 municipal election are Oct. 22 – 23, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Oct. 26-30; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, Oct. 31, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Board of Elections. The election is for all nine municipalities in Cumberland County and the Eastover Sanitary District.
