Years later, Rey has indeed made an impact on Ohio Theta as he has led our chapter through the Honoring Our Past, Building Our Future campaign. Ohio Theta gave Rey many undergraduate opportunities to practice and hone his leadership abilities, including serving as chapter president and alumni operations director, among other executive board positions. As alumni operations director, Rey led the undergraduate side of planning and leading the chapter's 50th anniversary, which at the time was the largest alumni event Ohio Theta had ever done. Upon returning to Cincinnati after living in Miami, Florida, Rey was serving on the alumni corporation when the idea of the capital campaign was brought up, and he felt the need to get involved. With support from his wife and then Alumni Board President John Abraham '77, Rey stepped up and became vice-chairman of the campaign. "These things don't happen without a catalyst, and I wanted to be that catalyst. John led the organization for so long and we had strong leaders like Phil Shepardson '68 before that; I felt like it was my way to contribute." As vice-chairman, Rey's roles include overseeing alumni outreach, campaign publications, alumni events, managing alumni solicitations, and recruiting alumni to be involved with the campaign, expansion project, or the alumni board in general. In that role, he was able to meet with alumni and hear their stories. "I've heard stories ranging from the founding fathers to when the chapter was strong in the '60s to how they survived when times were thin in the '70s, and about how we rebuilt the strength of the chapter in the '80s and '90s." As the campaign winds down, Rey looks forward to sharing the renovated chapter house with alumni for years to come. "Their contributions made this house a reality, so I look forward to sharing it with our alumni as they come back for events and volunteer. It's really a unique experience to walk through the house with an alumnus who hasn't seen it before. You get to see their excitement and hear stories about their time in the house. It's neat to hear their feedback on how we matched the old parts of the house with the new." Rey works for Johnson & Johnson as an IT program manager for global manufacturing systems. When not traveling for his job, he enjoys supporting his four children in their sports and extracurricular activities with his wife, Bethany, a Theta Phi Alpha from UC.
