Sigma Phi Epsilon Ohio Theta P.O. Box 428561 Cincinnati, OH 45242-8561 Address Service Requested Theta Data W e had our fourth annual alumni vs. undergraduate softball tournament on August 2. We began with a cookout on the SigEp patio and then the game was played at the Marge Schott Stadium, UC's diamond on campus. There were a little more than 50 people present (both actives and alumni), filling out two alumni teams and two undergraduate teams. Actives won the first game 8-7, and the other alumni team won their first game 16-5. The alumni team, Revo Poondogs, won the whole tournament with a final score of 12-7 in the championship game over the active member team led by Ben Finke '18. All in all it was a great event and everyone enjoyed playing at the stadium, which is normally closed, but Ohio Theta rented it for the game. Great music was played throughout. With this win, the alumni have won three years in a row. Alumni celebrated like they won the World Series, jumping up and down and piling on each other around the pitcher's mound. Jackson Powers, son of Jerry Powers '99, was the bat boy, and he stepped up to the plate to bat a few times throughout the games. Maybe nowhere else has this been exemplified better than at Ohio Theta. We have been fortunate to have a strong core set of volunteers dating back to when C. Maynard Turner, Washington Beta '22 helped to clear the way to buy 321 Joselin in 1953. Most recently, we had a strong set of volunteers who helped us through the expansion project and then to celebrate the grand opening of that same home. We offer thanks to all the brothers on the house planning committee, fundraising committee, and the Grand Opening Celebration committee. The Grand Opening weekend and the banquet in particular was a great success, including a rousing speech by John Cassis '69. As mentioned during the Grand Opening banquet, the alumni board is looking to continue to provide support to the undergraduates through mentoring and also to create new and innovative ways to engage and interact with alumni. One of the ways that we are looking to expand our alumni relationships is by starting an alumni speaker series that will allow alumni to come back and share their experience and expertise from the post-collegiate years. As many of you know, we host classes at the house and we'd like to tap into the talents of our alumni base to include speaking engagements on topics like leadership, business, finance, and entrepreneurship to expand on our living-learning Residential Learning Community. If you have interest in speaking on one of these topics, or if you have an idea on other topics or expertise in a particular area, please get in contact with us and we will be happy to engage and get you involved. Additionally, we are always looking for volunteers to interact with the undergraduates in mentoring roles, facilitating workshops, or to help out with alumni relations and events. If you have interest in these, please contact Alumni Board President Rey Medina '99 at reymedina@hotmail.com. Campaign to end December 31, 2015.
