6 SEPTEMBER 9-15, 2015 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Downtown is filled with unique shops, boutiques, and restaurants, all with their own personal story. But behind these shops and restaurants are owners who work tirelessly every day, devoting themselves to their establishments. One of these shop owners is Angie Malave, the owner of The Wine Cafe and sister shop, The Coffee Cup. Establishing her first shop at the Millstone Towne Centre in Hope Mills almost five years ago, a devoted patron saw the potential in opening a Downtown location, and the rest is history. "Downtown is so beautiful," Angie gushes. "I love that we're so close to the Market House. Our customers can sit on the patio and enjoy such a landmark. We have a great view of Hay Street in general." Turning four years old this November, The Wine Cafe Downtown combines both a tasting room and a wine shop, allowing customers to relax and sip, or pick up a boˆle and go. With beautiful contemporary decorations, exposed brick, and 250 boˆles of wine lining the wall from all over the world, The Wine Cafe has become synonymous with a relaxing date night or a fun night out with friends. In fact, it was recently voted "Best Wine Shop" in Up & Coming Weekly's "Best of Fayeˆeville." Angie's mantra, "Shop Small, Drink Big," rings true in her store. With prices starting at $7.99, she offers patrons plenty of affordable, delicious options. "Our goal is to find that wine that over-delivers for the price," says Angie. Angie adds the main idea of her store is for people to come here rather than the supermarket for everyday sipping. "I want to show people that a wine shop doesn't have to be just for special occasions," she says. "When you buy local and shop in a small, local business, you'll get a beˆer quality of wine than at the supermarket." In addition to her beautiful location on Hay Street, Angie says her favorite part of being in the Heart of Fayeˆeville is the diverse people who are Downtown. "I love all the happenings Downtown: the festivals, 4th Friday, the concerts," she says. "But I would love for the Fayeˆeville community to know that Downtown is a destination for everyday, because you can have lunch — a healthy lunch — or have a coffee or a glass of wine. People should be coming here beyond the special events." Downtown is a true community with shop and restaurant owners taking care of one another. Angie says she ošen sends her patrons to different places or points them where to go when they're Downtown. She says as a team they send people to other shops or restaurants and help promote events together. downtown FAYETTEVILLE SKIP THE SUPERMARKET #SHOPSMALL AND #DRINKBIG IN DOWNTOWN Stay connected to your Downtown...
