COMMUNITY NEWS a STAFF REPORT COMMUNITY NEWS Area Residents Get Locally Grown Food Delivered Year-Round NEW EXHIBIT Residents in Cumberland County, on Fort Bragg and in Moore, Hoke, Lee and Harnett counties have a resource to conveniently shop for local food without having to leave home. Carolina Grown, Inc., specializes in the home delivery of only N.C.-grown or produced food to its members. Members customize their food orders each week via Carolina Grown's online menu, which is updated each week for seasonal availability. Carolina Grown works with farmers from across the state to provide members organic and conventionally grown produce; pastured, grass-fed beef, pork, chicken, lamb, goat, rabbit and bison; fresh seafood caught by N.C. fi shermen off the N.C. coast; dairy, including eggs, milk, butter, cream and ice cream; locally made breads and baked goods; N.C. beer and wine for authorized members; and more. Because of North Carolina's geographic composition from coast to mountains, and because Carolina Grown utilizes farms from across the state, fresh produce, meats, dairy and more are available all year long. Carolina Grown is part of the Goodness Grows in N.C. program, and serves Cumberland, Moore, Hoke, Harnett, Lee, Chatham, Johnston, Durham and Wake counties. The service recently extended its home delivery service to the Greensboro market, and looks to add Wilmington with a Thursday delivery date beginning in early March. The service works with farmers who are USD-certifi ed organic, Animal Welfare Approved, Certifi ed Naturally Grown, as well as with farmers who are non- certifi ed organic and who grow conventionally. The business also is looking for new farms and producers to add to their menu offerings and farm selections. Farms of any size are welcome to join Carolina Grown as producers.
