F CUSOn FAST Bus Passes Now Available at Carlie C's Stores Fayetteville Area System of Transit (FAST) bus riders can now take advantage of added convenience while shopping for groceries at four Fayetteville Carlie C's stores. Riders can purchase FAST bus passes at the Eutaw Village, Cedar Creek, Bordeaux and Reilly Road Carlie C's locations. Parking Deck's Design Promotes Safety When the Franklin Street Parking Deck opens Friday, Feb. 24, the public will have the opportunity to utilize a facility that is well equipped with safety features, including lighting that is 2.5 times brighter fact, has 19-foot ceilings, along with poured-in-place construction (versus pre-cast) that allows for a more open and even distribution of lighting. There are security cameras inside and outside of the facility, a glass elevator and stairwell, and emergency call boxes on each level that are directly linked to 911 police dispatchers. All of the special safety considerations were included in the design, visible facility. provides more spaces to the heart of downtown Fayetteville. The parking deck will have 298 spaces, an increase of 214 spaces for downtown. Attached to the Robert C. Williams Business Center, the parking deck is within walking distance from numerous downtown restaurants and shops, and will be a welcome addition during the Dogwood Festival in April. continued next page "We're excited about this partnership with the four Fayetteville Carlie C's grocery stores, because the bus pass sales make it easier for customers to travel around the city," FAST Director Randy Hume said. "The added convenience for our customers to buy bus passes at locations closer to their homes and workplaces improves access to our services, and hopefully we will gain new riders in the process. FAST is appreciative of the commitment that Carlie C's has made to helping us improve bus services in Fayetteville." Bus passes are sold at Carlie C's customer service centers. Passes for 30-day unlimited rides are being sold for $30, 30-day discounted passes for elderly and disabled individuals are $11.70 and FASTTRAC (ADA) 20-ride passes are $27. All the rates are the same prices as before. Passes can be purchased via cash or debit card. Prior to the passes being sold at Carlie C's, the only physical location to purchase passes was at the Old Wilmington Road Transfer Center, which will continue to sell bus passes. Since 2008, Fayetteville Area System of Transit ridership has increased by more than 50 percent, and in calendar year 2011, ridership topped 1.5 million. City Honors Black History Month with Special Events The City of Fayetteville is celebrating Black History Month in February with historical and educational programs and exhibits. Black History Month allows the City to focus on the history, achievements, and contributions of African- Americans' whose stories have been woven into the fabric of the American experience. The February events include: Visitors Center at the N.C. Veterans Park that will feature the contributions of African-Americans during World War II. All branches of the armed forces are represented in this exhibit. Also, featured on the large screen in the Visitors Center will be a documentary on the Tuskegee Airmen. This exhibit will run throughout the month of February educator, author, and lawyer. The exhibit will be displayed in the front lobby of the Fayetteville Area Transportation and Local History Museum throughout February at 2 p.m. in the Headquarters' Library Pate Room on Maiden Lane. The program will include a of his books, and discussion of local sites highlighted in his works. The City is partnering with the Headquarters Library on the program p.m. in the Market House.
