Boy Is Dead From Injuries Received On School Ground William A. Albert, the ten-year-old son of Mr. And Mrs. H. F. Albert of Gerber, is dead from the affects of an injury received while playing with other children on … a playground apparatus at the Gerber school grounds where the boys and girls take hold of irons on chains, run out and then swing out into space in a circle around a pole. Army National Guardsman Brad Chambers visited students in the PAL program. Brad Chambers was a member of the Tehama County Police Activi- ties League Martial Arts Center for Excellence for 10 years. When he left he was 18 and had graduated from high school and had achieved a black belt, 3rd degree, in Jujutsu as a student of the PAL dojo. He joined the Army National Guard and eventually spent one year in Afghanistan as a machine gunner in a Humvee. He visited the dojo on Monday, Jan. 23, and spent some time with the students who train there from 3 to 5 p.m. on Mondays and Thursdays. For about ten min- utes the students asked him questions about his tour of duty in the Army National Guard. Before he left on Monday he expressed an interest in returning to the dojo, this time as a Sensei (instructor). He achieved a lot of great rewards while in PAL and now he feels that he wants to give back. When he first entered the dojo he walked up to a five year old stu- dent while training, whom he did- n't know, and walked the boy out of the dojo with no one asking him who he was or where he was going. He got out the door with the boy but returned immediate- ly. The PAL adults asked him to do this drill to show how easy it is to walk away with a child with no one ask- ing questions. There was a five minute dis- cussion about this then they all asked Brad their questions. PAL Martial Arts is located at 1005 Vista Way, Suite C, and is open on Mondays and Thursdays, 3 pm to 5 pm, for school age kids and teens, 5 to 18 years of age. All PAL pro- grams are free.
