Tuesday, January 24, 2012 – Daily News BULL & GELDING SALE RED BLUFF The Bulls are Back Red Bluff's Buckin' Best New champions will be crowned during the 20th Anniversary of the Cinch Jeans Red Bluff Buckin' Best bull riding invitational on Jan. 28 at the Pauline Davis Pavilion in Red Bluff. National Finals bucking bull producer Don Kish will showcase some of the toughest, meanest bucking bulls ever. Fans will hold on to their seats as top cowboys from Red Bluff to Texas compete for the championship honors. "We are fortunate that we are able to have the quali- ty of bulls we have at the bull riding," said Adam Owens, general manager of the Red Bluff Bull & Geld- ing Sale. "Don Kish is a local producer who raises some of country's best bucking bulls in the rodeo busi- ness. He continues to bring his best bulls to the Buckin' Best year after year." The rodeo highlights local Future Farms of America (FFA) teams during the invitational calf scrambles. Each boy and girl team will race down the arena and try to catch and halter a wild calf. Once caught the teams See BEST, page 2B 1B Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale 71st annual Red Bluff Bull & Gelding Sale kicks off Jan 24 through 28 at the Tehama District Fair- ground in Red Bluff. This is the largest live- stock event of it's kind west of the Rockies. The Sale, founded by a group of Tehama County ranch- ers and the local Farm Advisor, aims to bring higher quality genetics to cattle herds. Known to cattlemen across the country simply as "Red Bluff," this premier sale has a reputation of some of the finest breeding stock available. These big boys will be sold Jan. 28 starting at 9:30 a.m. Now in its 50th year, the very popular gelding sale draws buyers and consignors from all across the west. Geldings are sold at auction to a capac- ity crowd every year. These geldings also com- pete to be champions in team roping, cutting, snaffle bit, stockhorse and conformation. The sale starts at 5:30 p.m. Friday, January 27. One of the newer events is a showcase for some the best-trained cowdogs in North Ameri- ca. Dogs compete three times to crown the cham- pion. The auction of these working dogs takes place in the Don Smith Pavilion in front of a standing- room only crowd. Dogs sell to buyers from all over the country. If you are interested in buying or observing, the sale starts at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. Cattlemen also are interested in the WVM Internet Feeder and Female Replacement Sale, held in conjunction with Western Video Mar- ket. Featuring a large offering of steers and feeder heifers from sever- al Western states, the sale includes and a large spe- cial breeding stock sec- tion featuring bred cows, bred heifers and pairs. The biggest attraction for the general public is the huge Western trade show and the Western art show and auction. Hundreds of vendors of all sorts bring their wares to the show, which is open each day.
