Your gifts make it possible for our undergraduates to reside in a safe and comfortable home while remaining competitive at OU. The following is a list of alumnae who gave in 2014. Thank you for your support! I t is appropriate at Founders' Day that we remember with gratitude all that God's hands have provided—food, family, friends, home, and health. We Tri Deltas have one more thing to celebrate, and that is our sisterhood. We begin with a now-traditional poem from my Dayspring Calendar, whose author just may be a Tri Delta: "Some sisters are ours by birth, while others have been chosen. Either way, a sister is one of life's true treasures. Our bonds of sisterly love are so strong and sure that nothing can break them." On a very cold winter evening members of the Oklahoma City, Edmond, Norman Alumnae Chapter, including a large number of young Tri Deltas and Golden Circle members, braved the cold to announce and celebrate one among our Golden Circle selected to receive the 2014 Lifetime Loyalty Award (LLA) and to also recognize the previous recipients. Unlike the Tri Delta Panhellenic Woman of the Year Award in the spring, the recipient of the LLA is kept secret until it is presented annually at Founders' Day. This year's honoree is a child of the '50s who had a small-town upbringing, but made it to the big city. She has an infectious and ready laugh and a wonderful sense of humor. She is creative, not so much in an artistic way, but in the innovative way she thinks. Her children call her the Energizer Bunny. Some of us are black and white; I say that our honoree is definitely Technicolor. Like so many of our generation, she was a whiz in college, active in Tri Delta, married her college sweetheart, and became a homemaker and mother of three. As an alumnae member, our recipient has served in many roles from large to small. She served as alumnae chapter president, chairman of the Golden Circle, patron chairman of The Bouquet of Art, the previous fundraiser, and, using her journalism skills, established the first newsletter. She served her collegiate chapter as pledge class president, house president (house manager), and as Panhellenic president. But her interests were not limited to Tri Delta. A member of First Presbyterian Church of Oklahoma City since 1966, she taught Sunday School for 25 years and, for several years, served as director of Kirk Night and also delivered Meals- on-Wheels. She stays involved with her ties to family interests in Kingfisher, her home town, where she served 12 years on the board of the Peoples National Bank, the first bank in Oklahoma. By this point in my introduction, the recipient and many at Founders' Day recognized—and those reading this article probably also recognize—that our 2014 Lifetime Loyalty recipient is Joann Hodgson Holden '55. But known to few, she has also made an international and educational impact. Now for the rest of the story… As an investment advisor in NYC, her husband, Jim, as well as Joann, had the privilege of meeting Shelby Davis, who became a lifelong friend and the sponsor of the Davis United World College (UWC) Scholars Program. Returning to Oklahoma City to establish Jim's firm, the Holdens introduced OU to the program and eventually helped establish OU as a program site, becoming personal donors to the program, as well. In 2014, OU became the only public university to be awarded the Davis Cup two years in a row, recognizing its record-setting enrollment of 45 UWC international freshmen. To date, OU has received $8 million in funding from the Davis UWC Scholars Program, the largest international scholarship program for undergraduates in the world, founded and supported by Mr. Davis. In November 2014, Joann funded the first annual Tri Delta-UWC Davis Scholars Dinner at the Theta Gamma house for these freshmen as an addition to the chapter's outreach to international students, and hopefully contributing to the chapter's receipt of the President's Trophy. OU Davis Scholars represented 60 countries and all 12 of the UWC campuses worldwide, where the students finish their last two years of secondary education. Jim, a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Joann graduated from OU in 1957. They have three children: Hart Holden is a Westminster Beta and an OU Law School graduate who has one daughter and is an attorney in Arlington, Virginia; Ann Holden Parrish '87 is a graduate of Smith College and Indiana University with an MFA, who participated in the Lifetime Loyalty presentation and has a son and two step-daughters (one whom is a Theta Gamma); and Margaret Holden Donnelly, a Kappa from Westminster, who is a CPA in Oklahoma City and has three daughters and two step-sons. We congratulate Joann for her accomplishments and thank her for her lifetime of loyalty to Tri Delta. I thank her for being an inspiring role model.
