Excitement, spiritual anointing, family-empha- sis and musical excellence are what you can expect to find when you step across the threshold of the audito- rium for an evening of fam- ily worship and praise with the Collingsworth Fam- ily starting at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 7 at Bethel Assembly of God, 625 Lu- ther Road. The concert is free, but a love offering will be taken. Heartsong will be the open- ing group. The Collingsworth Fam- ily boundaries of influence have expanded until they have sung and played all over the United States as well as internationally into their 27th year of ministry. Their constant, persistent attention to cutting-edge arranging, musical excel- lence, and a proper bal- ance of spiritual emphasis are the keys to success God has helped them tap. In 2014 they won Mixed Group of the Year and Mu- sician of the Year, for Kim, Singing News Fan awards. The entire family sings together in an ensemble. Kim is well-known for her mastery of the piano, as well as trumpet solos from Phil. The two oldest daugh- ters are proficient on the vi- olin and play at each of the concerts. The family appears on the newest Homecom- ing Video Series with Bill Gaither. Collingsworth Family performance set The community is in- vited to attend the National Day of Prayer breakfast at the Red Bluff Community Center 6:45-8 a.m. Thurs- day, May 7. Local community and re- ligious leaders will join in prayer for the nation and its schools, businesses, fam- ilies and city officials. Those leading corporate prayers include Bill Goodwin, Te- hama County CEO; Candy Carlson, Tehama County Supervisor; Todd Brose, RBUHS superintendent; Kristin Behrens, Dignity Health Marketing manager; Matthew McGlynn, Tehama County Superior Court Judge; Suzanne Birch, Cor- nerstone Bank vice presi- dent of Marketing and Da- vid Blythe, senior pastor of Bethel Assembly. Annually held on the first Thursday of May, the National Day of Prayer ob- servance invites Americans from many religious back- grounds to turn to God in prayer for the United States. Created in 1952 by a joint resolution of the United States Congress and signed into law by President Harry Truman, this day is a time when people are asked "to turn to God in prayer and meditation." The day's an- nual observance also signi- fies that prayer continues to be an important expres- sion of freedom in the na- tion, enabling citizens to re- call and to teach the way in which the founding fathers sought the wisdom of God in facing critical decisions. To RSVP for the break- fast, call the Vineyard Christian Fellowship at 527-2449 or send an email to rb.vcf.office@gmail.com. The Red Bluff Ministerial Association welcomes local pastors to gather for coop- erative work in the name of Christ. MINISTERIALASSOCIATION National Day of Prayer breakfast set COURTESY The Collingsworth Family will perform May 7at Bethel Assembly of God. By Marilyn Adams Every day of your life is stamped with God's purpose for you. I love the verse in Job 42:2 which says, "I know that You can do every- thing, and that no purpose of Yours can be withheld from You." What is God's purpose for your life? What does He have planned for you spe- cifically? The answer is as- tounding. He chose you to receive His gift of ever- lasting life. Ephesians 1:4 says, "Just as He chose us in Him before the founda- tion of the world, that we should be holy and with- out blame before Him in love." Romans 3:23 says, "For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God." How is it possible when we are all born into sin? Je- sus Christ, the Son of God, died on the cross to pay the full penalty of your sin. He took your place. He made it possible for you to have eternal life in His presence forever. 2 Corinthians 5:21 says, "For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him." Titus 3:5 says, "Not by works of righ- teousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us..." As we contrast those two verses, we un- derstand that our righteous- ness is the work of sin. His righteous- ness is given to us by the One who knew no sin. The mo- ment we ac- cept the Lord as our per- sonal Savior and Lord, He gives us His righteousness, or right standing with God. The Holy Spirit then begins the work of righ- teousness in us. Hebrews 13:21 says, "Make you com- plete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen." I like the word work- ing because immediately it gives me two pictures. One is a potter working water into the clay so it is eas- ily shaped, and the other is kneading bread dough to work in the yeast so it per- meates every particle. The more God's word is worked into our hearts, the more we will be con- formed to His image. Ro- mans 8:29 says, "For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son..." The work of conforming us contin- ues through our entire walk with the Lord on this earth. Psalm 23:3 tells us that He leads us in the paths of righteousness for His name sake. His gift of righteousness continues on throughout eternity. Seeking to walk united with His will in every pur- pose, thought, and action is to be our priority. Mat- thew 6:33 call us like this, "But seek first the king- dom of God and His righ- teousness, and all these things shall be added to you." We cannot do this in our own strength. It re- quires yielding to the Holy Spirit. He is the One who empowers us. Galatians 5:16 says, "I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh." If you have never re- ceived Jesus as your per- sonal Savior, you can right now. Confess that you are a sinner. Acknowledge that your way of doing things has led you down the wrong paths. Romans 10:13 says, "For whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved." MarilynAdamsaccepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior in 1958. A debilitating accident in 1977 radically changed her life. Through that crucible of affliction, the Lord wooed her into intimacy, teaching her timeless truths that sustain her, and permeate her teachings.
