THE IOWA STATE PHI 4 Dance Marathon holds a special place in the hearts of Iowa Gamma Phi Delts. The event, Iowa State's largest and most successful student-run philanthropy event on campus, was started 18 years ago by an ISU Phi Delta Theta member. Since its inception, an Iowa Gamma Phi has been in the general co-director role for more than 10 of the Dance Marathons. This year, brother Austin Javellana 1818 served as the general co-director for the event. On January 23 and 24, Iowa Gamma once again had a great presence at Dance Marathon. During the event, many of the Phi Delta Theta committee members got little to no sleep over the course of 38 hours. Although tired, they were vital in the event's success. Iowa State Dance Marathon 2015 raised over $444,000, with Iowa Gamma raising $15,382! This year the chapter had 10 active members on the executive team and committees. The following were on the executive team: Austin Javellana 1818 (general co-director), Greg Hunt 1853 (finance director), Thomas McKenney 1819 (families co-director), and Ben Carlson 1824 (recruitment co-director); on recruitment committee: Thomas Woodruff 1856, Corey O'Brien 1814, and Patrick Hepner 1880; as well as Nick Hinkle 1850 – Dance Marathon Corps, Jake DeHaai 1835 – Business Relations, and Jackson Mores 1838 – Families Committee. A Successful Semester Propels Us Forward T he fall semester once again proved to be a very successful one for the men of Iowa Gamma! For this year's Homecoming celebration, we were paired with the women of Chi Omega and had a lot of fun and success. We placed third in both Lawn Display and Painting Victory Lane, and the chapter moved on to second cuts in Yell Like Hell. Iowa Gamma has also made great strides in our scholarship program, moving up from a 2.9 to a 3.08 chapter GPA. This places us sixth among all fraternities at Iowa State! While we are incredibly excited with this improvement, we are trying to improve our standing and hope to be in the top five this semester. We continue to grow as a chapter with 24 new members initiated in January, one of the largest initiation classes in recent years. Our recruitment chairmen have done a great job already for the spring semester with 12 Phikeia recruited. This brings us to a total of 87 total members, 17 new members and 70 initiated brothers. This semester we are looking forward to competing in Greek Week with the women of Alpha Gamma Delta and raising the bar for our academic success and involvement at Iowa State University. On behalf of the chapter members, I want to say thank you to all our alumni supporters. You're welcome home any time!
