Picking all of the features and the style of how things will look has been fun and sometimes challenging. When you put together a new home you rely on the builder to listen to you and have the people skill set to manage your inexperience with the decision making time frames. Our builder is amazing and he has a dream team of sub-contractors who take thoughts and turn them into reality. Every one of the people who have worked on our home has been wonderful, thoughtful and accommodating and a genuine craftsman. Every one of the phas- es of completion have gone well and any modifications or Faydra changisms have been taken in stride. One person in particular really stood out in the building process at our new home. Robert Defonte is the quintessential nicest guy you've ever met. Robert Defonte puts his heart into his work and goes out of his way to make your dream his priority. I have known Robert's wife Lisa since high school. I had never met Robert until we started this home. Early in the process all of Robert's tools were stolen from the house. Years of accumulation was gone in an instant. Some tools were inher- ited and had very special meaning. Robert was hurt and rightfully angry, but he tempered his emotions with a counterbalancing acceptance of what can't be changed. Robert has worn many hats in this process. At a Spartan football game he casual- ly saved the day when he realized my home was about to be painted entirely different colors than I had picked. Anoth- er day he got down and dirty with me picking just the right shade of not-too-green, not-too- cream paint to accent my daughter's wall paper. He has stopped what he was doing to help me pick knobs for drawers and look at decorations that he could probably have cared less about. Robert told me about his kids and how proud he is of his son who received the highest award in Boy Scouts. He talked about his wife and how much she matters to him. He spoke of the pizza oven he hopes to one day build and deservedly bragged about other houses he has helped make into a home. No matter when I see Robert, he is happy and positive. No matter when I come to the house he is willing to stop what he is doing to answer ques- Faydra Rector You Matter tions or just chat. No doubt he often times has things on his mind. No doubt he has had days where things were not as positive as his welcome, but I never know if it is. Be like Robert. Be the best you can be at what you do. Be honest and open and friendly. Be interested in what matters to people around you and share things about yourself too. Be nice, be genuine and care. Robert, you matter because you have made this process delightful for me. You saw my vision and worked as a team mate to see it happen. You matter because you lift your family up with how you speak of them with love. You matter because you have a wonderful outlook on life and you are an example of what simple kindness and consistency can do to rub off on other people.
