Raley opened his first store on Main Street in Placerville Feb. 16, 1935 and advertised it as "the nation's first drive- in market." So began what has be- come known as Raley's Family of Fine Stores, a now-integral part of many California and northern Nevada communities. Today, with 128 stores and some 13,000 employ- ees, customer service re- mains a priority, along with providing busy, health-conscious fami- lies with delicious, easy meal ideas at an every- day value. "My family and I are proud of how the com- pany has grown over the last eight decades, and proud that we continue to provide high-quality, fresh and local products and ex- ceptional customer service — just like my grandfather set out to do in 1935," said Mike Teel, Raley's presi- dent and CEO. Raley's 80th anniver- sary coincides with a re- newed company wide commitment to the well- ness and sustainability of surrounding communities by partnering with local farmers to ensure custom- ers can get the best, fresh products and local food banks through the Food For Families program. Clough's three liv- ing grandchildren, Can- dace Clough Owens, Nancy Woodward Hartelt and Su- san Woodward Pugh will serve as grand marshals of our Round-Up parade in memory of one of the legends of the Red Bluff Round-Up, Allie Clough. BEAM huge success The atmosphere was filled with excitement as businesses and organiza- tions presented their wares to more than 400 people at- tending the Business Expo and Mixer at the Commu- nity Center. A large amount of busi- ness to business network- ing and meet and greet with the public took place for the 2.5 hours of the expo. The public won prizes and met many leaders of our com- munity. The vendors came away encouraged by the folks they met throughout the evening.
