The recent completion of the Shasta College Tehama Campus River Trail provided the right tim- ing to talk about the Tehama Coun- ty Bikeways Plan, said the center's volunteer Executive Director Bobie Hughes. When Red Bluff Trails United disbanded the center took on the responsibility of advocating for the plan and pushing officials to move it forward. The primary goal of the Tehama County Bikeways Plan is to basically develop a bicycle sys- tem trail that would transfer into a multi-regional network, said Sean DAILYNEWS TEHAMACOUNTY DAILY 50¢ T H E V O I C E O F T E H A M A C O U N T Y S I N C E 1 8 8 5 Trail network a realistic vision Harrasser, a planner from the Tehama County Transportation Commission. "A lot of this boils down to vision," Harrasser said. "It's about what the community has to add and what they want. We're all in this together." City Planning Director Scot Timboe described some of the planned routes that would make the connection complete. While the Sacramento River running through the community is one of the best features, attracting many to the area it also is a hurdle for the bikeways plan. Among the main points of con- nection needed to be made to com- plete the network is a free span bridge across the Sacramento River connecting the trails from Dog Island to the one by Durango RV Park. Some type of access bridge is needed to connect Belle See TRAIL, page 7A Courtesy photo by Ben Hughes Tom Orr of Shasta College talks about the recently completed campus trail that is part of a larger trail network as outlined in the Tehama County Bikeways Plan. Woman's death still being investigated By JULIE ZEEB DN Staff Writer The cause of death is still pending for the woman, identified by police as Barbara Acevedo, found dead Monday afternoon in the 1200 block of Aloha Street in Red Bluff. An autopsy was conducted about 9:30 a.m. Tuesday by the Yolo County Coroner's Office, however, the coroner was unable to determine a cause of death without further testing, Sgt. Dan Flowerdew said. "During the autopsy no evidence was located to conclude that the cause of death is associated with the domestic violence incident the night before," Flowerdew said. "Final cause of death is pending the toxicology report." The 41-year-old woman was found inside her residence at 12:57 p.m. Monday by a family mem- ber, he said. Officers responded and called the Tehama Coun- ty Coroner's to the scene as a precaution since Acevedo had been the victim of a recent domestic violence incident, Flowerdew said. Red Bluff Police were called to the same loca- tion just before 9 p.m. Sunday where Carmelo Acevedo Gutierrez, 39, of Red Bluff was arrested, he said. Gutierrez was booked into Tehama County Jail, with bail set at $65,000, on the felony charges of domestic violence and false imprisonment. ——— Julie Zeeb can be reached at 527-2153, extension 115 or jzeeb@redbluffdailynews.com. Annie, Jr. takes the stage tomorrow By TANG LOR DN Staff Writer Students in the Red Bluff Union Elementary School District are once again planning for another fall musi- cal, this time hoping to captivate the audience with their performance of "Annie, Jr". Vista seventh-grader Haley Scott will play the lead role of red-head orphan Annie. While this is her first lead, Scott has lots of experi- ence to back up her performance. She has been in pre- vious school musicals and participated in the Missoula Children's Theatre. "I'm really excited, but nervous at the same time," Scott said. She described Annie as always being "the happiest little girl in the world." Even when she's in the worse position ever she doesn't give up and she thinks about tomorrow, Scott said.
