PETS ADOPTIONEVENT STARTS FRIDAY RED BLUFF » A 62-year-old Corning man died Tuesday while in custody at the Tehama County Jail. The Tehama County Sheriff's Office is investi- gating the death of Edward Jay Robinson, who was not found breathing around 8 a.m. Tuesday in an observation cell, according to a press re- lease issued Wednesday afternoon. Robinson reportedly caused a disturbance around 6:30 a.m. Tuesday in a housing unit, us- ing a food tray to damage a fire sprinkler, which flooded the housing unit. Officers handcuffed Robinson and took him to an observation cell in the booking area. He was checked every 13 minutes from 7:29 a.m. to 7:55 a.m., the release said. During a routine check at 8:02 a.m., jail staff found Robinson was not breathing and CPR was initiated by jail medical staff. Upon the arrival of the emergency medical personnel, they assumed life saving efforts and Robinson was transported to St. Elizabeth Com- munity Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Robinson had been arrested and booked into the jail on Jan. 14 by the Corning Police Depart- ment for possession of a dirk/dagger, brandish- ing, trespassing and public intoxication. An autopsy is planned for Thursday to deter- mine the cause of death and the investigation is continuing. A nt hony E dw a rd s Stangl, 28, who appeared in Tehama County Superior Court with his attorney, Je- sus Rodriguez, is scheduled to stand trial starting Feb. 25. Marijuanashooting The jury trial for the three men charged with murder stemming from the 2013 shooting death of a Redding man about 16 miles west of Red Bluff was postponed Tuesday. A Tehama County judge granted a continuance in the case, and the men, Chase Alan Doulphus, Alan Duane Doulphus Jr. and Roger Sandy Bounnhaseng, all of Fresno, are expected to appear in court Feb. 17 for further proceedings and resetting, according to on- line court records. The three men are charged with murder in the death of 37-year-old Keo Oudone Vannarath of Red- ding. The authorities say Van- narath was shot Oct. 3, 2013 during a robbery attempt at a medical marijuana grow- ing operation in the 15800 block of State Route 36W. He later died from his wounds. The defendants remain in custody at the Tehama County Jail. TEHAMA COUNTY Trial date confirmed for man charged in a deadly crash By Andre Byik abyik@redbluffdailynews.com @andrebyik on Twitter RED BLUFF » The Red Bluff City Council on Tues- day appointed council members Daniele Jackson and Clay Parker to review agreements related to the Community and Senior Center here with county supervisors. The Tehama County Board of Supervisors ear- lier this month formed an ad hoc committee to look into long-standing agreements between the city and county after the City Council rejected a county request to share in a repair cost at the community center. The county replaced an air conditioning unit at the community center last July at a cost of about $47,000. County officials requested that the city of Red Bluff reimburse the county about $23,000 for the repair, but council members, pointing to a 1995 agreement, said it was the county's respon- sibility to pay for repairs. The community center, which was built by the county, sits on city-owned land that is leased to the county. The city of Red Bluff, per the 1995 agreement, also manages the community center, which has been described as a joint-use facility.
