to the Museum of the Cape Fear
including Arsenal Park and the
1897 Poe House along with a full
schedule of events for historical
tours, children's activities and
more. Hours are Tuesday through
Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
and Sundays from 1 to 5 p.m. A

which will be built to showcase
the Antebellum, Civil War, and
Reconstruction periods!
Fayetteville Area Transportation
and Local History Museum,
also the home of the Downtown
Fayetteville Farmer's Market, is a
beautiful restored 1890 Cape Fear
and Yadkin Valley Railroad Depot
with fascinating exhibits depicting
pre-history through the early
20th century transportation. For
train and car buffs, this museum
is for you including the Museum
Annex next door, which continues
Fayetteville's story complete with
vintage cars and a recreated 1920s
gas station. Hours are Tuesday
through Saturday from 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m. and more information

The Market House, Cumberland
County's only national historic
landmark, is open to the public on
4th Fridays from 6 to 10 p.m. for the
exhibit A View from the Square: A
History of Downtown Fayetteville.
In addition to this exhibit, view
a different local history feature
each month including Fayetteville
Architecture in January and
the history of Fayetteville State
University in February. These
glimpses into our past should be
worked into everyone's schedule
during 4th Friday along with dinner
and a walk downtown!
The Fayetteville Independent
Light Infantry Company Museum
(FILI) boasts the history behind
North Carolina's official history
military command and oldest
Southern militia unit in continuous
service established in 1793. It
is a private museum, open by
appointment only or by special
occasion. For more about the FILI

Last, but not least, is a different
type of museum geared towards
the little ones, the Fascinate-U
Children's Museum. Play pretend
and creativity is encouraged here
with interactive exhibits including
a weather station, post office,
schoolhouse, bank, grocery store,
theatre, farm, fire department and
more. There is also a special exhibit
of model trains on the third floor.
Hours are Tuesdays, Thursdays
and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.,
Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 7
p.m., Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 5
p.m. and Sundays from noon to 5
