Any momentum gained by the visitors wouldn't last long, as Red Bluff commit- ted six hitting errors in the second set to allow Par- adise back in the match with a 26-24 victory. The Bobcats put the set away when sophomore middle Serena Riddle solo-blocked Regan Barrow at 23-all, then smacked a Spartan free-ball pass back over the net for one of her nine kills on the night. "Paradise is a younger team (but) they're going to be good in the years com- ing because they got (un- derclassmen) playing var- sity already," Frantz said. "We're all juniors and se- niors, (but) we were a little under-sized and it showed against the bigger teams. We're not playing above the net." The Spartans were able to get up there when they needed to, like in the ever- important third set when senior co-captain Bailey Frantz floored four of her seven kills to help keep Red Bluff within a couple points of the Bobcats. Paradise would implode a little later, failing to get two consecutive points fol- lowing ties at 23, 24, 25, 26, 27 and 28. Twenty-eight-all was the magic number for Red Bluff, however, as the Spar- tans surged past Paradise, 30-28 in set three to regain control of the match. Bengson said losing the way Paradise did in set three has an effect on a team. "It's nerve-racking for a lot of us, but we have to be confident and have to have the emotion and heart to come out and win," she said. "A 30-28 game (is) a lot of work ... we pushed our hardest and tried our best." Bengson, who notched 10 kills and 16 digs in her final prep match, had help trying to get Paradise back in it in the fourth and fi- nal set. Freshman libero Lorissa Parks collected a service ace, while Riddle placed a shot cross-court to tie it at 18. But Frantz, the coach's daughter and one of the leaders in Red Bluff all year, immediately pounded one off the Para- dise block to give the Spar- tans the lead back at 22-19. Then, after a Paradise service and passing mis- take, Red Bluff had three match points to work with. They only needed one as the Spartans closed out the match, 25-22. "Our middle hitter, Hai- ley Reineman, to put the last two away her senior year is exciting for her," Frantz said. Reineman added six kills and six blocks, while junior Katie Gallagher led Red Bluff in kills with eight while splitting her time at setter and front-row at- tacker. Riddle contributed nine kills for Paradise, while freshman Carly Ot- ten added five in the loss. Spartans FROM PAGE 1 RICK SILVA — PARADISE POST Red Bluff High's Bailey Frantz hits the ball past Paradise's Serena Riddle in the fourth set Thursday in Paradise. Antonio's assets in the strongest light, and they did that." Oakland Mayor-elect Libby Schaaf said that she will meet with team offi- cials next week and that she was assured by Raid- ers President Marc Ba- dain that the team still prefers to stay in Oakland if a stadium deal can be reached. "I'm looking forward to getting to know the Raid- ers and what their needs are," Schaaf said Friday, while reiterating that she opposes using public money for stadium con- struction. The team's continued flirtation with San Anto- nio comes two weeks af- ter Oakland officials an- nounced that a new invest- ment team was interested in financing construction of a Raiders stadium at the site of O.co Coliseum. However, the investment group, fronted by San Di- ego businessman Floyd Kephart, has refused to disclose its financial back- ers or whether it would de- mand a stake in the team in return for closing an es- timated $600 million fund- ing gap for the new facility. Davis still has not signed a letter of interest in the project requested by the city. "I think Mark Da- vis wants a better deal is what it boils down to, and I think he's somewhat ag- nostic as to where it comes from," said Robert Boland, academic chair of the Pres- ton Robert Tisch Center for Hospitality, Tourism, and Sports Management. Boland said San Anto- nio is the least likely option for the Raiders, however, because the Dallas Cow- boys and Houston Texans would likely both oppose the move and seek compen- sation from the Raiders for moving to Texas. "In that sense I think this is largely posturing," Boland said of Friday's meeting. "But the Raiders are telling the world that they are a very movable team." Cisneros did not return requests for comment Fri- day. Along with being the first Latino to become mayor of a major U.S. city, he was the federal secre- tary of Housing and Urban Development during the Clinton administration. Cisneros is also not a stranger to Bay Area land dealings. The real estate investment company he founded, CityView, bought an unfinished Berkeley condo development for $60 million two years ago and has worked in Pleasant Hill, South San Francisco and Marin County.
