quarterback reins back over to Kade Lewis. Lewis completed 15-of- 33 passes for 101 yards with constant pressure in his face throughout the game that prevented Red Bluff from ever looking for the deep ball. Lane Pritchard faced double coverage through- out the night, but pulled in four balls for 40 yards. Wyatt Clement had three catches for 27 yards and Joey Skaggs caught four balls for 19 yards. Miguel Grajeda had an 11-yard reception. Daniel Koenig led the rushing attack with 27 yards on seven carries. KJ Hinkston caught two balls for four yards and carried twice for nine yards. Aaron Lyon had a recep- tion and ran four times for nine yards. Dale Danis had five yards in mop up duty. Spartans FROMPAGE1 Series play and is 2-1 in four starts this postsea- son with a 1.42 ERA. He followed Tim Lincecum, Matt Cain and Jonathan Sanchez as a rookie in the 2010 Series. He pitched three-hit ball over eight in- nings in a 4-0 Game 4 win at Texas that put San Fran- cisco within of its first ti- tle since 1954. Two years later, he pitched after Barry Zito and allowed two hits over seven innings in a 2-0 win at AT&T Park in Game 2 as the Giants swept Detroit. Now, with Cain side- lined since the All-Star break because of an el- bow injury that needed surgery, the left-hander has become the ace. A native of Hickory, North Carolina, Bumgarner has a farm with horses and cattle. He is said to have given his wife a cow ahead of their wedding. Bumgarner is part of a Southerner corner con- tingent of pitchers in the Giants' clubhouse that in- cludes Georgian Tim Hud- son and Alabamian Jake Peavy. Bumgarner takes the mound to the Marshall Tucker Band's "Fire on the Mountain." "Our locker room defi- nitely took a step toward the redneck side at the start of this year, that's for sure — in a good way," Hudson said. "I think ev- ery team needs a little red- neck in them." And manager Bruce Bo- chy, while born in France, spent time living in North Carolina and Florida. Grits are served to players ahead of day games. "I like my rednecks, they're a good bunch of guys," Bochy said. "They come out, they get after it and play the game right. It's a very diverse group. ... We do have a unique group of rednecks." Shields, a 32-year-old right-hander, also is un- beaten and unscored on in the Series: He pitched Tampa Bay to its lone win in 2008 when he allowed seven hits over 5 2-3 in- nings in a 4-2 victory over Philadelphia. Kansas City acquired him from the Rays in December 2013, hoping he would help transform a young team into a contender. "He's kind of just turned the clubhouse around, re- ally," manager Ned Yost said. "He brought a defi- nite winner's attitude with him, and he's not only molded but he's mentored our players in that fact." Shields is 1-0 with a 5.63 ERA this offseason. He told the Kansas City Star he passed a kidney stone last week during the ALCS. "I haven't pitched the way I wanted to. There is no doubt about it," he said. "So I'm a big believer in amnesia. I've been doing it my whole entire career." ON THE AIR By Will Graves The Associated Press PITTSBURGH One diz- zying sequence, and the Pittsburgh Steelers were in complete control against J.J. Watt and the Houston Texans. Ben Roethlisberger passed for two touchdowns and wide receiver Antonio Brown added another on a gadget play during a deci- sive surge late in the first half, helping the Steelers rally for a 30-23 win over the mistake-prone Texans on Monday night. Pittsburgh (4-3) needed just over a minute to turn a 10-point deficit into an 11-point lead as the Texans self-destructed while los- ing their third straight. Roethlisberger finished with 265 yards passing. Le'Veon Bell racked up 145 yards of total offense and rookie wide receiver Mar- tavis Bryant caught a mo- mentum-swinging touch- down pass in his first NFL start. Arian Foster ran for 102 yards for Houston (3-4), but just 29 over the final three quarters. Ryan Fitzpatrick was 21 of 32 for 262 yards with two touchdowns and an interception but the Texans were undone by three turnovers. Watt recovered a fum- ble and picked up his third sack of the season but was neutralized for most of the second half. Pittsburgh was listless for the first 25 minutes, let- ting Foster and Fitzpatrick do whatever they wanted as the Texans raced to a 13-0 lead that seemed larger. A strike from Roethlis- berger to Bell provided a much larger one shortly after the 2-minute warn- ing. Roethlisberger hit the versatile back for a 43-yard gain — Pittsburgh's longest pass play of the season — to move the ball to the Hous- ton 35. Roethlisberger then hit Bryant, who struggled staying healthy in the pre- season and spent the first six weeks on the inactive list, with a beautiful rain- bow Bryant caught at the back of the end zone to make it 13-10 with 1:27 left. The Steelers were just getting started. Foster fumbled deep in Houston territory two plays after Bryant's score and the Steelers recov- ered. Pittsburgh offensive coordinator Todd Haley, who has faced heavy crit- icism for his play-calling, went deep into his options to help the Steelers take the lead. On first-and-goal, Roeth- lisberger flipped the ball to Brown, who was coming in motion. The Pro Bowl wide receiver then spun back around to his left and fired a strike to Lance Moore in the end zone. Houston's issues esca- lated on the next snap when Fitzpatrick's throw over the middle was de- flected into the arms of Pittsburgh defensive end Brett Keisel. The 36-year- old took the second pick of his career to the Houston 8. Roethlisberger found Brown for a 6-yard gain and then hit Bell — who was uncovered after going in motion — for a touch- down. The Steelers methodi- cally added on in the sec- ond half, extending the lead to 14 points on a pair of Suisham field goals be- fore a late scoring pass from Fitzpatrick to Foster provided the final margin. The end played in stark contrast to the beginning, when the Texans controlled the line of scrimmage. Fitzpatrick found rookie running back Alfred Blue for an 11-yard touchdown pass to end a 10-play, 94- yard drive on the Texans' opening possession before Watt went to work.
