page 3 alpha chi omega W hile the summer months mean being away from UNL for a little while, the women of Alpha Chi Omega took full advantage of our break. Sisters worked esteemed internships, traveled to amazing places such as Spain, China, Croatia, and Switzerland, while still finding time to visit each other in hometowns. Alessia Satterfield '07 and Vice President of Philanthropy Allison Haindfield '13 even went on the Alpha Chi Omega global service initiative trip where they helped rebuild schools in Jamaica. NATIONAL CONVENTION UPDATE In July I had the privilege of representing Xi Chapter at the 58th national convention in Palm Desert, California. Throughout the weekend keynote speakers Stacy Nadeau, Kathy Savitt, and Melissa d'Arabian all had great messages to inspire real, strong women. Dr. Jacquelyn Campbell and Sharon Love also spoke about the One Love Foundation, which was founded to provide resources and even developed a cell phone application for those in a violent situation or relationship. Please visit www.joinonelove. org to learn more. The delegates present at convention also conducted national chapter meetings, where we elected the national council and re-elected national President Diane Blackwelder for the 2014-16 term. Some highlights for Xi Chapter at convention were receiving the Carnation Roll, which is an honor for chapters that have collectively gifted more than $25,000 to the Alpha Chi Omega Foundation, and being recognized and certified at the highest level of house corporations. During this time I was surrounded by women of all ages and from all over the country that share the same bond. I feel so honored that I was able to attend my first national convention as Xi Chapter's collegiate delegate. It was an experience I will never forget. FALL FORMAL RECRUITMENT Excitement and energy had been building all summer to move into the Alpha Chi house and invite a new pledge class to join this sisterhood. We were especially excited to be able to use and show off our kitchen that was updated and completed over the summer. Xi Chapter extends a huge thank-you to everyone for your support, and we cannot wait to initiate these incredible women to our chapter. STAY CONNECTED This fall our chips and dip philanthropy will be held Friday, September 12, at 9 p.m. at the chapter house. We would love for you to join us and support domestic violence awareness and the local friendship home. Please feel free to contact me anytime, and as always I hope you will stop by the chapter house or any chapter events!
