In Memoriam (Continued from page 2) T he Alpha Chi Omega Educational Corporation supports Xi Chapter collegians to achieve academically through funding scholarships, funding educational resources, and honoring those who exhibit academic and leadership success. On November 17, the Educational Corporation will be having its third annual Leadership and Scholarship Recognition Ceremony. In the spring of 2014, the Educational Corporation recognized collegians for being on the dean's list or serving in a variety of campus leadership positions. Xi Chapter's involvement includes the UNL student government, College Republicans, special interest clubs, academic organizations, and many honor societies. Over 25 UNL organizations have Alpha Chis as part of their membership. Thirty-one of the recognized collegians are either on the honor roll or dean's list of their college. Eight collegians were recognized for outstanding scholarship. These women are: • Abby Lanoha '10 • Anna Lee '10 • Leah Miller '11 • Amy Mingus '11 • Rachel Novotny '10 • Sara Novotony '12 • Jessica Shultis '13 • McKenna Kime '13 As each collegian is recognized she is given a red carnation from the Educational Corporation as an icon to symbolize Alpha Chi women bringing knowledge to the solution of their own problems and passing on the light of knowledge from generation to generation. This year, we are pleased to add some new recognition to the ceremony. These will acknowledge and recognize: • New students who received a perfect GPA for the 2013-14 semester. • Collegians who had the most improvement on their GPA over the last two semesters. • Recipients of the Mary Minor Jeary Carter Scholarship. • Recipients of the Xi Chapter Scholarship. We are hoping that many students apply for the two scholarships. Mary Jeary was a sorority member in the 1920s and an advisor during the '40s. She was very active throughout her life and to honor her devotion to Xi, her husband, Earl Carter, endowed a scholarship. The recipient of the 2013-14 Mary Minor Jeary Carter scholarship was Recruitment Chairman Cassie Kilpatrick '11. The Xi Chapter Scholarship was formerly known as the Vivian Grainger Scholarship and in 1982, in honor of the 75th anniversary of Xi Chapter, was combined with a major fundraiser to create a large enough endowment fund to allow a scholarship based on the interest each year. Your donations to the Educational Corporation continue to support these events. Thank you for encouraging Alpha Chis to be involved, serve others, and achieve academic excellence.
