2A Daily News – Friday, July 8, 2011 Community people&events Carpenter — Rowen Family reunion for Madole descendants By RUTH ESKRIDGE Special to the DN There were 59 descendants, four generations, of Layte and Nettie Madole of Oklahoma who gathered for their 50 year family reunion June 24-27 at Ft. Bragg. Family members came from Cal- ifornia, Oregon, Washington, Ari- zona, Colorado, Kansas and Penn- sylvania to renew their family ties. Those in attendance from Red Bluff were Descygne "Dee" Eskridge, Fay and Ruth Eskridge, Ken, DeAnne and Kenny Close with their daughter Lesa and husband Brennan Brackbill coming from Pennsylvania, and Russ, Karen and daughter Kristin Baluk. Parks meeting cancelled The Parks and Recreation Commission meeting of July 13, has been cancelled due to lack of new agenda items. The next scheduled meeting will be held on Aug. 10. Bennett awarded Minch Scholarship Jennifer Lee Bennett, a 2006 Red Bluff High School graduate, has been awarded the Dorothy Minch Nursing Scholarship for $2,000. She has successfully completed her second year in the BSN pro- gram at Chico State. Jennifer has main- tained an excellent GPA, while continuing to work 25 to 30 hours plus, in a Chico Obste- trician's office. She is responsible for all her own finances. City Trustees Seek Plan To Place Band On Municipal Basis The city trustees last night voted to investigate the most feasible plan to aid the Red Bluff band in a financial way. George Wahl, secretary of the chamber of commerce, urged the band be put on a municipal basis. The band budget, he said, for next year called for an expenditure of $1,290 as a liberal allowance for chairs, instruments, drums, part of payments for uniforms and the leaders salary of $100. — Daily News, July 8, 1921 Her community ser- vice has included Kiwa- nis camp counselor for under privileged chil- dren, and volunteer at the Shallom Free Health Clinic. Manton Days Parade and Grange Picnic Saturday The annual Manton Day Parade will be held Saturday, with parade entries forming up at the Manton Grange on Forward at 9 a.m. The parade begins at 10 a.m. with reviewing and judg- ing at the Manton Corners. It terminates at the Manton Diner, where parade awards will be presented. Red Bluff Emblem club administers the scholarship, funded by the Minch family. It honors the late Dorothy Minch, who had been a registered nurse, president of Red Bluff Emblem club and state trustee for the Cal- ifornia Nevada Hawaii State Association of Emblem Clubs. The Mayor's race is a fund raising event where the candidate that rais- es the most money wins, not unlike most political races. This year the "Mayor's" money will be donated the Manton Historical Society, for a new roof for the Manton museum, and the Manton School, for computer equip- ment, said current Mayor and Manton Volunteer Fire Assistant Chief Bob Cords. In the past two years the Mayor’s money went to help the Manton Volunteer Fire Department with the purchase of extrication equipment, (Jaws of Life). With the efforts on many in the community the depart- ment reached its financial goal and has purchased this equipment. The “Jaws” will be unveiled to the public at the picnic.
